97 Wrangler start up problem
Hey all...I have a 97 Wrangler that I haven't really been driving anymore. I replaced the battery a couple months ago and got it started back up and it was fine. I would start it up every couple weeks to make sure it was still running. The alarm even went off on it a couple weeks ago during the storm...
However today I was actually taking it to sell it and now I can't even jump it. Every time I try to start it up the battery power tanks and it won't turn over. I almost got it going when I pumped the gas a couple times but once I let go of the gas, it completely turned off and now won't even start to turn over.
When I disconnect the battery from another car it won't even hold a charge. I've slowly learned anything I do know about vehicles from my jeep, but on this one I have no idea, so I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas.
I don't think starting it up after couple of weeks for few minutes will charge the battery to full. You might have drained the battery almost completely. Try putting a battery charger on it overnight and see if that helps.
If you are jump starting, make sure you leave the jumper cable hooked to the battery for about 5 minutes before starting the engine. Once you get the engine started, keep it running for atleast 20 - 30 mintues ... that will charge your battery good enough.
