ok.....considering ideas here. gimme some feedback.
i would like to go to an 8.8 rear, go spring over and 35s, but, it looks like that could be a pretty good while since the money stream is light. so i had some ideas.
aussie locker lunchbox in the rear 35.
lincoln lock the rear
leave the rear alone till i can do it rigfht and get the 8.8.
keep in mind, i have 31's, and a tired 4 banger. i see little street usage. mostly just to run up to the ice house or grocery store (when its warm) to save my truck (diesel) from so many short trips. long trips get trailered, only used on the highway if for some reason the truck is out of commision (like when the dumb @#%$%$ ran the light and took my truck out for a month)
the only reason im hesitant to spring for the aussie is that my biggest hinderance offroad is the clearance afforded by 31's. i could use that 225 to get a SYE and then go ahead and go spring over and just live with the little tires until i rob a bank or hit the lottery.

I wouldn't put any of my money in a 35, you might be able to find a Dana 44 in a 1987 to 1990's cherokee with the option, and probably get it real cheap.

Try and find an XJ/MJ with a D44 or 8.25 rear to swap in. That would be the best bet really.

front is already locked. i have been looking for donor axles but have not had much luck. if im gonna do that....then do u think i oughta just go ahead and lincoln lock it? if it breaks....park it till i find a donor?

White Buffalo, This question has been bouncing around in my head for years. I have the same opinion that I will not spend a dime on my D35. But, on the other hand I have wanted to get rid of it for about five years now and still haven't done it yet. Maybe a lunch box locker would have paid for itself by now. Sorry to add more confusion. Just lincoln lock the damn thing. At least it won't cost you anything.

Lincoln lock it, if you're just going to replace it then don't spend money you don't have to on it.

Since you don't drive on pavement much, I'd say a Lincoln locker would be the way to go. Then swap it out for the 8.8 as soon as you can.

as soon as i can isolate my driveline vib....and assuming its not too expensive, ill prob lincoln lock it and just wheel it carefully unitl i find a new axle. im watching about 10 if them on ebay now LOL

i don't like the sound of a lincoln locker and a dana 35, even if it's a trailer queen...besides, it's a c clip axle, that can't work too well. save some money and get a nice axle, perhaps an 8.8 like mine :D i'd try going with bigger tires and less then soa lift as well. i never liked mine sitting that high up, and was able to fit 35's with a 2" bl and a tired 2" rancho spring lift...so with some trimming and a decent regular lift and some bumpstops you could get scootin' pretty good with a set of 35's and an 8.8 later on.

95 and later had disc brakes. the mustangs didnt have 5 on 4.5 lug patterns so you'd need new wheels or axle shafts

Mustangs also have smaller axle shafts, same with most rangers. I believe some of the 4.0 rangers did have the 31 spline axles.
