Painted my Fender Flares
Had some nice weather this weekend and decided to finally tackle those fender flares. I was originally planning to take them off to paint them, but ended up masking the area and painting them while they were on the Jeep. I did take off the fender flare extensions since they will be coming off in about a week when I get the rocker guards I ordered and put them on.

Flare extensions off, prepping.

Wet paint. It's truck bed liner, slightly textured, in a spray can.

After 24 hours of drying. Pulled it out for a couple of photos then put it back in the garage to let it sit and dry some more before I gotta head to work tomorrow.

Will be taking the jugs off the bumpers next and having the rocker guards installed once they come in the mail.

Can anyone suggest a place to get black headlight bezels and good quality black light covers? I saw a set I really liked (light covers) but they turned out to be plastic. I would prefer metal.

Black headlight bezels you can get from CSE offroad on ebay. $25 shipped. By tail light covers do you mean guards? If so, idk, I sprayed mine with VHT Nightshades to darken them so they don't stand out. You can get clear or smoked marker lenses on ebay too, seller name is neondials.... Nice looking job on the flares... I gotta do mine some day. Love the electric green! :)

I'll look for the headlight bezels. I hate that mine are chrome. There's nothing chrome anywhere else on my Jeep!

Yes, I meant the light guards - you know, the metal kind.

Well since you are in the painting mood why don't ya just paint the headlight bezels?

x2 - that's what I did and they've held up for over two years so far. Just scuff them up with sandpaper or scruffy pad and shoot them with a couple coats of primer then a couple of your choice of black. I think I used Krylon flat black.

You know, that's not a bad idea. I had thought about it but wasn't sure how well it would work to paint chrome. I guess I would need to get some primer and some different paint. The paint I used on the fenders is truck bed liner, the textured kind, and I'm not sure that would be a good choice for the headlight bezels?

If you want to paint them, clean them with a degreaser, scuff them with a scotch brite pad, prime and paint them. Some folks do use bedliner, others paint. If you give 'em a few coats of clear after, that will become the sacrificial coat, rather than the paint. I didn't want to mess with having to touch them up down the road. (and my hubby is funny about stuff like mucking with stock equipment) so I bought black ones and don't have to worry about chipping.....

yeah idk about using the textured paint. but like gus said the krylon flat and even the rustoleum paint for metal which is what i used will work fine for the chrome. i scuffed up the chrome a little and used gray rustoleum primer. i did not use any clear coats and only a couple chips so far, im just too lazy to repaint them yet. but a clear coat will probably prevent that.

imo, thats something i would not pay 25 dollars for replacement when i can paint it. but painting wheels is another story.

edit: little slow typing, but yeah what the chick said...

Yeah i painted my bezels. Just sanded them and spray painted them. Cheaper than buying new black ones. Nice jeep by the way, but your top sticks out like a sore thumb. It would look great black.

Yeah, I know, Nic. But I don't have a way of getting it off to paint it (or back on, for that matter) by myself, and I don't think I would be able to do a decent job with it on the Jeep. So, for now, it stays gray.
