Diagram of underside of TJ/LJ

I'm looking for a diagram (or something) that identifies the parts underneath the TJ/LJ. Specifically, I'm trying to figure out the stock skid plate set up. I think I know what's what, but I'm just not sure since I haven't started mods yet.

Suspension would be helpful as well.

Thanks for any help you can give!

As for the rest....I can't find a picture of a stock under body TJ.

If you go take a picture or two of yours, I'll label it up like the picture above as far as what is what bud.

^^ I dunno if you could trust this gubberment worker lololol.:rofl::flipoff:

Shuddup kid. :flipoff:

Or go find me some underbody pic's of a TJ. :p

CMEvans79 05-05-2010 06:46 AM

Do they make lower control arm skids? ... I need just one big flat piece of metal across the entire bottom, that would work as a "Skid" right LOL ... I AM JOKING of course.

MCDavis 05-05-2010 02:11 PM

Thanks, distorted...that's the suspension pic I was remembering but couldn't find (or, you created one very much like what I've seen before).

When I get home I'll see if I can get a decent pic of the underside. I've got 2 skids and a crossmember, but I just don't know what each one is. Since I'd like to do a TT, and I've got my eye on a used engine/oil pan skid, I figured I might want to know what's under there first.

distortedtj 05-05-2010 10:44 PM

No problem bud just get me the pic's and I'll let you know what you have, whether it's stock or after market we'll let you know. :wavey:

I'm pretty sure it's all stock as low as it hangs. I'll try to take some pics at lunch today.

distortedtj 05-07-2010 11:33 PM

Lunch is over. :D where's the pic's?

Ageless Stranger 05-07-2010 11:37 PM

I'd say so.

Actually it's almost 1st break time (11:00). Lunch is at 1:30A.M.

Ageless Stranger 05-07-2010 11:38 PM

BTW,
I really like your Rubicon, DTJ. That yellow is just stunning!

distortedtj 05-07-2010 11:53 PM

It's nice ain't it. The color changes at times from Girly Yellow to Barbie Gold. It's AMAZING!

Ageless Stranger 05-08-2010 12:16 AM

Barbie Gold- Must have been a Rubicon exclusive. Yeah, Had to be.

distortedtj 05-08-2010 12:17 AM

Here you go bud...all stock under there...

BLUE..Transmission/ Transfer Case skid. They are fully supported by this skid. "the four bolts in the middle of that skid..is the transmission mount bolts.

GREEN...Transmission pan skid plate. protects your automatic transmission pan. ""only on auto trans models""

RED... Transmission pan.

PINK... Rear main seal leak...standard on all 4.0L engines....no really it is. So don't feel that bad.

MCDavis 05-10-2010 08:01 AM

Thanks, distorted. That helps a lot.

Not sure if that's a leak or a stain. I had all the seals replaced under the 7/70 warranty I transferred not long after I bought it. They replaced one of the mains a second time under their own warranty. Since it's due for a service, and still under 7/70, they get to check all my seals again!

I'm really glad I trasferred the warranty. Only downfall is I'm trying not to do any mods that could cancel it. But, I'm only 6,000 miles from the warranty running out, so it soon won't matter anymore.

I am looking to fab my own skid pan for the engine/oil pan... is there anything I should be worried about and could I just bolt it to the frame and have it mount up to the t-case skid?

Can you sure, you can fab anything you want.

But a little info on your jeep would help ALOT bud. Please take the time to fill out your jeep profile please. It will help us help you in the future.

Also there are several companies out there that make skids for the oil pan.

Most use braces that bolt up to the motor mounts and then extend back to the t-case skid and bolt to the bottom of it. A sheet of steel a couple of pieces of steal to make braces up to the motor mounts and some bolts. Not much to them.

Not sure if you mean you're joking about the LCA skids, but in case you're not Skid Row makes some bolt on ones I just installed: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f19/wha...-5165-287.html Post 8603

And: Lower Control Arm Skid Plates - for Jeep TJ, LJ, XJ, MJ, ZJ - Skid Row Offroad

Very beefy 1/4" steel.

I also recommend these Genright lower control arm brackets. They are 1/4" and about $40 for the pair...
http://www.genright.com/images/products/BKT3100_md.jpg

I think the factory brackets are 1/8 if that. Mine folded super easy. I replaced them with Rubicon Express brackets shown below...
http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Images...RE9993/324.jpg
but they were "only" 3/16 and were bent easily when I rolled over. After those folded is when I went with the genright brackets
