Speaker wire colors... at the speakers, not the receiver
2006 TJ w/ option RCU 7-speaker system incl. subwoofer

I've been searching all over, and the only speaker wire color posts I'm finding describe the colors at the receiver wiring harness. I'm seeing different colors at the speakers themselves.

Can someone post the + and - wire colors for the dash and soundbar speakers?

easiest way is to pop the speaker using a 9v batt.

by that i mean remove factory speaker and use a 9v batt on speaker term of removed speaker. hold the (+) from 9v on 1 speaker term. and touch the 9v (-) to other.. then look and see what way speaker is moving. if cone moves up (away from magnet) then you have the (+) & (-) from 9v hooked up to correct (+) & (-) of speaker....if speakers cone moves twards magnet wires are reversed.

hope that makes sence. it's a old trick of the trade in car audio

That sounds like a good way to determine the (+) and (-) terminals of the speaker --- I need to know the (+) and (-) wires.

So...keep track of the color wire you pull off from the terminal of the speaker.

Use what he said...a positive terminal on the speaker means the wire is positive, and so on with the negative.

Jeep didn't have speakers in it when purchased - just stripped wires (so I don't even have factory terminals to reference). In theory, if I had constant power through the wires, then I could use the pop test with the wires attached. Where I'm at now, it's either someone in Jeep-land posting the color codes for the wires, or I assume testing the wires with a multimeter (never used one to test polarity of speaker wires so if you can help explain that process, have at it.)

Hmmm...Go to Best Buy and tell them to have at it? :)

Got it: Crutchfield's tech support has the color codes online (as well as the receiver harness pin identifiers). I'm not crazy: speaker wire colors are listed differently for "@ spkr".

I'm still going to use the 9V battery pop test on the speakers to make damn sure everything is installed correctly. Thanks again guys.
