Im looking at ordering this exhaust for my 2014 JKU and i was wondering as to why the install instructions say to cut off 2 1/2 inches. Why doesn't the system come ready to install? Its either this system or the Dynomax rock crawler cat back system. I cannot really decide between the 2 systems. Whats everyones opinion?

dynomax is a vendor on the WF, PM them... :thumb:

You do not have to cut 2 1/2 inches off for an unlimited. I installed this system on my 2013 and it fits like a glove straight out the box.

Why is this an off road only exhaust?

Some states require an exhaust system to exit out the rear of the vehicle.

:)

So I installed this exhaust today, the rubber exhaust mounts suck, but with a long strong screw drive and some PB blaster I had them off in about 20 minutes. I cut the 2.5" off just like Dynomax says which I had to go purchase a sawzall for since the hack saw wasn't cutting it, that really should be taken care of at the factory. I'd spend an extra 10 for a system that was already cut so I wouldn't have to dick with it and purchase a 100 tool, although I'm sure it'll be needed and get used again.

Everything went well until I tried to mount it up. It went to place, but the front lip of the exhaust hits the cross member that is below the drivers seat so the exhaust isn't hanging free from the rubber exhaust isolators. Whats going on here?

Exhaust sounds great, nice and throaty at full acceleration with just slight drone that is barely noticeable at 70 and I'm sure would be drowned out by the howl of MTs if I was equipped. So far I'm very please, but I have to figure out how to separate the cross member and the muffler...

Got your PM, I will get you a new pipe out.
What year by chance on your JKU?
The cut is NOT needed on the 4 doors.

CS at its finest right there ^

Too bad Magnaflow wasn't this good with it's customers! I should have gone with Dynomax.

I'm VERY impressed with the customer service! The exhaust does have a slight drone at 1500 rpm, but for me that's 25 and 45mph depending on the gear (auto/3.21). I find myself just driving 5 over and the drone goes away. At highway speed it's almost non existent. I think it'll be even less noticeable when I swap to 4.88s as I should stay above 1500RPMs most of the time.

Don't let this stop you, this exhaust sounds great for a V6 and it's very light and tucked out of the way. Plus it's only $130 from Amazon after your rebate! I've also picked up ~1.4 MPGs city since putting the exhaust on, I feel like I'm even revving it more to enjoy the sound.

I have been checking my Evap for heat, I plan on relocating it anyway, but so far I don't think it's a requirement as it doesn't seem to be getting warm, even after longer drives. That being said the temp hasn't been above 80* yet to really test it out. Just keep in mind it dumps next to the evap, so keep an eye on it.

Please let this be a warning to all: DON'T cut your pipe on a JKU 3.6 even though the instructions tell you too.

Dynomax, The pipe, hangers and muffler all hold a magnet. I realize some stainless is magnetic, but I'm curious are the pipe, hangers and clamps all stainless or is it just the muffler?

Thanks again!

DynoMax Exhaust 03-24-2014 06:08 PM

All stainless 409 or 304. As stated no cut on the 3.6 JKU !!!!

My new Midpipe showed up yesterday, big props to DynoMax for sending it out so quickly. I'll try and get it installed today after work if the rain holds out.

pbeachcruzer 03-28-2014 05:54 PM

does this system tuck up higher than stock to aid in suspension travel?

JCDriller 03-28-2014 08:05 PM

Got the new mid pipe installed today. It didn't go perfectly smooth, but I got it in with a little work. I still had to cut about 1/2" off the mid pipe as the rear exhaust mount that attached to the turn down wouldn't reach even when rotated horizontally. Cutting 1/2" off the mid pipe helped but then I was in contact with the cross member again. Next move was to cut a wedge out of the exhaust turn down clamp so that the turn down would seat deeper into the muffler allowing me to attach the rubber mount. This finally worked.

If I could do it again, I don't think cutting the mid pipe was needed, I think I could have got it to fit by just cutting the clamp. Either way, it's all assembled, not in contact with the body and sounds great.

Shows how close is it to the cross member

Shows the rubber exhaust mount sitting horizontal and the cut I had to make to the clamp to allow me to push the turn down further into the muffler and attach the exhaust mount.
