Help with what mods for the jeep

I have a 99 wrangler. The previous owner put a 4 inch body lift on it. I am thinking of removing it and putting a 3 inch suspension lift on it instead. Please put your input on which lift I should get. Input on any other mods would be great also. I'm pretty new at this so any ideas and help would be appriciated.

What ever you do, get rid of that 4" body lift. That is insane. Definately go with the suspension lift.

Yeah definitly scrap the bl. A lift is always a good place to start with a jeep. But with a lift comes bigger tires and many other mods that will require money. A 2in spring spacer lift it good to start with, requires no extra mods and will take 32 in tires. I would also look into some body armour too to make it look more aggressive. It all depends on your budget really. A smaller lift will allow you to buy more upgrades. That's what I would do. Just don't buy cheap equiptment.

By the way where in nc? I'm livin up the mountian in boone.

I live in havelock, nc. On the beach. I'm planning to spend anywhere between 1000 to 1500 bucks. So any good brands out there?

Old man emu is good and ppl on here seem to like it. if i had 1500bux to spend, i'd get a nice set of backspaced wheels, nice tires, or just nice tires, a spacer lift 2", and if ure gonna be on the beach a nice system so everyone can hear it lol

old man emu is a good brand, at least their shocks are good. i have the skyjacker 2" budget boost and no complaints here.
that and a set of 32" all terrains will make it look like this:

then you should have enough money to buy a new rock bumper or some other upgrades to suit you.

x3 on getting rid of the bl.

usmc_yang 05-10-2010 07:50 PM

The reason I'm getting rid of the bl is cuz the jeep slips out of second and fourth alot. I heard that a vl will do that. Is that true.

APPSTATEwrangler 05-10-2010 08:13 PM

well the transmission is not what you should worry about when you have 5in bolts ready to break away from the frame any minute.
but yeah i have heard a bl of any height will cause tranny problems.

mrcarcrazy 05-11-2010 09:00 AM

yup trash the BL. you can do a 1-1.25'' Body lift, and then a suspension lift. small body lift allows you to lift the engine a bit to help eliminate vibes that come with suspension lifts. Also gives you more options for armor.

Large BL's like you have cause all sorts of problems, they stress the body mounts, cause shifting issues in both transmission and T case, look silly, etc.

My plan is Old Man Emu, as I've heard very few complaints regarding them on/off road.
