How to get to the blinker switch?Help!
Ok, So i am going to replace my blinker switch because it is broke, i mean the hole lever and switch assembly.
But i don't no how to get to it, is the air bag in the way?
Any advice!

Just take the collar off of the colum. Just a few screws. Then 2 or 3 torxs screws hold the blinker assembley on the shaft.

DO NOT REMOVE THE STEARING WHEEL!!! no need what so ever.

Okay, I'm going to try and provide the instructions from memory, but I know I'll miss a few screws so bare with me.

1. Take a flathead screwdriver and pry off the long plastic bezel that runs along the top of the dash and has the cutout for the VIN #. It just pops off in three spots.

2. Use a phillips screwdriver and remove two screws on knee panel underneath the steering wheel (the part where your knees hit.

3. Remove three screws to remove that metal panel that is underneath plastic panel.

4. Remove two phillips screws holding the gauge cluster in on each side of the steering wheel, then remove the three screws at the top of the dash holding the cluster in.

5. Pull out the cluster by just pulling it out. It should come undone from the plugs.

6. Use a longer phillips to unscrew the three screws on the bottom side of the steering wheel. You'll see five holes, only three have screws in 'em. One of the other holes actually releases the ignition switch. Yank that plastic piece away.

7. Now move the hazard switch to the right. Jimmy off the top plastic bezel surround of the steering wheel. It'll take some maneuvering and play.

8. Now disconnect the lever that moves the steering wheel up and down. It's just a metal cable with a nugget at the end that sits inside the unit. This will make removal slightly easier.

9. Then it's two torx screws on top to remove the stalk piece. It should just come off the top then.

The stalk and the hazard switch is all one assembly. You just have to pull out the plugs by pushing in the tabs.

Again this is all from memory so bear with me. And you don't HAVE to remove the cluster, it just makes removal overall easier, plus you get to see how everything is put together.

Here's how it's done for a 2003. Fairly easy. Is the 1997 different?

There's no need to remove the instrument cluster, defroster vent cover, etc..

After tilting the steering wheel down, remove the two phillips head screws from the bottom of the plastic "collar" that is underneath the steering wheel column. Remove the top and bottom plastic cover from around the steering column once those two screws are out. The turn signal is only held in by a few more screws, remove them and then disconnect its wiring connector. Do the reverse with the new turn signal switch and you're done.

This is how it is done for your '97.

Don't forget to change the blinker fluid while you're in there ;)

That blinker fluid, is that similar to 'HOAT", just a different color?

Actually, when replacing the switch, the relay on the old one has to be removed and plugged into the new one, otherwise the blinker fluid won't even muster up a wink. :)

His '97 isn't configured like that. :)
