How many and where are my speakers.

tried searching online and in threads but no luck, I have an 03 TJ and sticker says it has seven speakers. I can only find five, one on each side of dash one on each side of sound bar and one in the armrest/console. Where are the other two at?

I bet you that you found all of them. The center one is technically a mid-range subwoofer, but I don't think there's a spot for any others?

Hoganoga 05-14-2010 10:07 PM

Thanks for the reply Burton. That makes sense, the console one doesn't seem to be working so I guess I really only have four speakers right now. Once I get the console one up and running it will sound better then it ever has even if I don't have seven individual speakers total.

Mine supposedly has 7 also. I think the dash speakers count as 2 each because they have tweeters. So thats 4 plus 2 in the sound bar and the sub makes 7.

Some jeeps come with speakers in the doors. Depending on if you bought it new or used. Doors might have been switched?

No Wranglers had speakers in the doors. The tweeters are counted as a seperate speaker.

burton160w 05-15-2010 09:43 AM

Yea def. no speakers in the door. There would be hardly any room for 'em!

The center console speaker is an 8" subwoofer that I wouldn't even bother to fix. The BEST is running an external amp, powering the soundbar and external subwoofer with it, and then running the dash off the radio. Let me tell you, at 75watts, I have no problem hearing my radio on the highway!

i thought the speaker in the armrest was a 6" or 6 1/2" subwoofer.

burton160w 05-15-2010 06:04 PM

It may be.

The sub is 6 1/2. Attached is an image of the 7 speakers. As indicated the front has seperate tweeters.

Do you have to remove the center console to replace the sub?

WarBoomer 08-30-2010 04:19 PM

Yes you have to remove the console.
Did mine a few months back using this write up. Not a bad job.

anyone know if the Kicker replacement front dash speakers are a worthwhile upgrade?
4x6 with built-in tweeter instead of apart, I think....

Go to your local audio store and pick up some 5.25" speakers, get adapter plates from ebay and swap out your fronts. They'll sound much better and probably cost less. I put Polk Audio's in mine and they sound much better. Qtec is high, and not really audio driven...

Search the forum, or just look back a couple of days, there was a writeup just this week about replacing the speakers and subwoofer. I want to say either Tuesday or Wednesday.
