Trading my Harley for this Jeep. Good Deal?
 
I have a 2009 Superglide Custom worth 12k Blue book. I told the guy I woud take his Jeep with some cash as blue book on his Jeep is 7.5-8.5k.

His response was that he had 15k in upgrades on the Jeep. Here are the specs:

99 TJ
Red, cold ac, 70k miles. 4.0L 5 speed. Half doors soft top.

Also he sent this (I dont know if these are good upgrades):

KBB on my Jeep is $8.5K, but I have over $15K in extras on my Jeep. It has Dana 60 axles with Detroit Lockers and 4.88:1 gears. Custom roll cage. 11 lift with 38 tires. Spray in bed liner. Warn winch. Custom bumpers. Alpine radio and speakers.

My question is if I were to sell this Jeep the same day, could I at least get around 11-12k for it. That will determin if It is ok.

You could get close if it's a good running, good looking Jeep with low miles. Let's see some pics.

Why don't you just sell your bike and shop for a Jeep?

I cant get the side picture of the jeep to load. The file is to large. He is sending more now. The Jeep looks well maintained.

I wanted to sell the bike out right and then shop around. However, I have noticed that the internet is flooded with Harleys and Jeeps, with Low miles are hard to come by.

I know it's not a good rule of thumb to buy a Jeep that is already modified, but my rational is that it is a secondary vehicle so I'm not that concerned about problems here and there.

Is this Dana rear end better than the Dana 44 that everyone talks about?

How expensive is it to lower a Jeep back to factory if I decided too? 10" lift is alot. I'm assuming the gas mileage is killed because of this mod?

That sounds more like a bad ass trailer rig than something you would drive on the street every day. D60s are pretty much required, and 38's are HUGE for a jeep. he could easily have $15K of mods into that.

Put your bike out there for trade on craigslist or something.. you'll probably find a better match. Let them come to you.

Hardly anyone ever gets full value for the extras we add to our Jeep. Many of us try, but most of us fail. But still, all the stuff is worth something.

This sounds like a highly modified vehicle that is designed for severe off-road use. It might be awesome - but it won't be civilized on the road. There will be issues with a rig with 11" lift, dana 60's, lockers - again, it might be awesomely fun, but there will be issues. This is NOT a daily driver, no matter what the current owner thinks. I'd guess that it's barely a streetable rig.


Based on your questions and "newbie" status - I'd strongly consider waiting for another closer-to-stock rig. But just an opinion. If you want to go straight to the top of the rock-cralwing, mud bogging class, this might be a quick way to get there.

One thing you can do if you don't want all the stuff on it is sell it individually.. you can get more out of it that way.

I would keep looking; try and find something closer to stock. I don't know but it sounds like a headache to me. I not even sure that 4.88 gears will turn 38" tires?

Thanks for the responses. I think you guys talked me out of the trade. You should see the picture of this Jeep. It is like Big foot. I really want more of a street jeep. This is too high profile for my taste. Thanks.

I'd go for something w/ less mods. That's a dedicated rig. no good for onroad I am willing to bet.

You can not go wrong with the information you have received from all the above posts. Don't make the trade for this monster machine. It sounds like Grave Digger machinery.

I agree, you guys are very helpful. I had a feeling from his other picture that it was not really a Jeep from me. I'm all about the trails, but that will not be very often. Thanks again.

Any chance of uploading some of the other pictures. Still looking for ideas for my own Jeep. haha.

I had a friend with a jeep on 38.5 SS TSL's and that thing would float across ponds when we went mudding. It was spectacular. Funny thing was, people would ask how it cruised in top gear on the highway, it always made me laugh when he asked what 5th gear was.

I agree..pass on this Jeep..way to many mods to worry about if they were all done right. Way too mod'd for easy street use...a PITA and expensive to detune back to something more streetable. Pass.
