Rolled my Jeep... Now what?

Well, this is embarrasing...:(

After years of putting it off, I finally purchased a 98 TJ and after owning it for two months I rolled it and am waiting for a tow truck to rescue me...

My question is: what concerns should I have besides the cosmetic stuff? I don't know a whole lot about Jeeps yet and want to make sure I don't cause more internal damage than I already have. It's been on it's right side for about four hours now and probably will be for another two or three.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

From the title of your post... I dunno.... :blunt: it

As long as you shut it off quickly it shouldn't have hurt the motor. I would check all the fluids before trying to start it.

McGridDLe 06-05-2010 09:02 AM

As stated, check the fluids before trying anything.. and I hope it turns out to be alright.. and I hope your ok. keep us posted

Had this happen a long time ago, CJ was on its side for about 30 mins...got it back over and all was fine. Also had a YJ on its top(not mine) for a few hours. Once we made sure everything was okay, (nothing busted broke, leaking etc.) we removed the plug wires,(so it could not start) and then spark plugs one by one and cranked it on off a few times to allow any oil in the cylinder to exit via the spark plug hole. We then as I recall hooked it all back up.. got some starting fluid or brake parts cleaner and prior to starting.. shot a short burst into the air intake above the air filter... Took a few try's but it started and we got it over the rest of the trail. Not sure this was the best way, but it worked for us. As for other damage look the jeep over real well.

Sorry to hear you flopped your rig. Please keep us updated as you go forward.

I agree with everything above. You're jeep is fine mechanically. You might need an alignment, and check for any bent axles, trackbars etc. The engine should be ok. Worse I've seen so far was the plugs needed pulled. No big deal.

It's not embarrassing either. I'm a believer in 2 types of Jeep owners. Those that have rolled, and those that will. I've been in 2 rolls so far, but both times I was a passenger. 1 on the street, the other offroad. Both vehicles drove away from the accident with just body damage.

Were you trying to impress your girlfriend?

Am I the only one here who smells a wannabe Chadwick-like Hoax ?????

If I see pics I'll eat my words but the timeline seems fishy, a tow truck coming to the rescue at 2 or 3 A.M.

You should pull the plugs and crank her over. After the plugs are back in and you get it started it will burn oil for a bit. should stop after a couple minutes. Take it easy going down the road the first time because the DW might happen. Get it to a shop have them look at it and have your insurance appraiser look at it too. Pocket the ins. check and do all the work yourself. You will become very handy and knowledgeable about Jeeps along the way. We need pics.....

How many times did it roll?

I was under the impression that if a jeep simple tips on its side its prettyy much okay, this true? LoL I dont think my toyota pickup would fare well with that

Check the fluids and you should be fine. I use to drive a race car on dirt. I was on the top a few times. Just rolled it back over and let the pit truck push me off. Once the carb got cleared it would fire and I would finish the race.

I was being quite, but I can't anymore.

I too now demand pics of you trashed Jeep, along with your woman. First, 1 of each, then a final pic together. I want her giving a thumbs up wearing a bikini next to the trashed Jeep. :D
