i got a tuffy in the center of mine... just bolted to the floor with three bolts. the previous owner put it in. but i had to take it out to bedline the jeep however im pretty sure theyre overpriced to the point of not being worth it....
i probably wouldnt buy one

I've seen a really cool console made out of an old army surplus ammo can.

I did this console with a 30mm ammo can...

not that hard, but a mig welder came in real handy

I'm just as curious. I don't have the cash to get a new tuffy, which is what I really want. My console is old and gross; really needs replacing. But I want to put my good stereo in there, so it needs to be secure. I'll be following this...good luck :)

it would be easyto make a console if you have a welder and fabrication tools

I just bought a tj and i'm planning on modifying the console to hold a hidden 10" sub and hide an amp for the speakers and sub in it. i'll be starting that in the next month or so. i'll post some pics once i start.

I have a 95 YJ that I got about 4 months ago. It came with the stock console still in it, piece of crap.
The plastic cup holders were broken, the lock had been busted, and it was really too big for the space b/w the two seats (difficult to slide the passenger one forward to put the dogs in the back, and then slide the seat back again without it kinking up the seatbelt clip).

I pretty much did what other posters suggested, used an old Ammo can (I think mine was a 20mm one though) and fabbed it up. I didn't use a welder though, just some super sturdy bolts, two huge door henges, and a nice handheld electric grinding disk. It turned out great!

Just google "ammo can console" and you'll get a ton of hits with different methodologies.
