Raising rear seats in a tj

Hey I'm trying to figure out a way to raise my rear seat so I can stow amplifiers, tools etc. anyone have any pix or explanations on ways to do this? thanx

Do you mean under the rear seat?

Cons_Table 06-15-2010 04:34 PM

There are adjustable feet on the back of the seat if I remember correctly...that will gain you a little clearance

I have a 4" high Tuffy tool drawer under my rear seat. Had to unbolt the seat brackets from the tub and bolt them to the Tuffy box along with the center connection for the rear seat belts.

domeshots 06-15-2010 06:05 PM

I am curious how you attached the tool box to the tub

Yah I dont think you can adjust a tj seat... but the toolbox idea migh work any pix?

Just unbolt all 4 brackets.Put 4 spacers the hight you want it.Rebolt using grade 8.8
bolt. the brackets on top of the spacers.DONE!

Underneath the brackets that your seat attaches to. :banghead:

Just like a body lift, but your raising the seat instead.!

sonofabeach 07-07-2010 11:36 PM

Nice idea! I'm guessing you might have to extend the seat belt buckle straps depending on how high you go? Post some pics when you do it.

i think rough country sales spacer kits to raise seats

JASPER 07-17-2010 07:13 AM

I'm actually looking for the exact same thing. My question is, could I buy the mounting hardware for the under seat tuffy drawer, and use that as the spacer or is the drawer itself loadbearing? cause if i can pay 40 for the hardware with no drawer and have the seat sit up high then i'll just go with that. Any thoughts? 99 tj btw..

daanbc 07-17-2010 07:53 AM

Im am not formiliar with how the tuffy bolts to the jeep. I would play it safe and use the existing holes in the jeep and just use longer/stronger bolts and a some kind of bobylift block to raise the seat and belts.

JASPER 07-17-2010 08:23 AM

i can see that working for the front seats because they just bolt straight down. With the rear seat, I'd have to raise the actual locking brackets on the rear and mounting/pivoting brackets on the front. The hardware from the under seat drawer does all this, and bolts to the original holes iirc. The part I'm not sure of is when the seat gets locked into place, if those brackets hold the seat up, or if the seat will bow down because there is no support of the drawer. :( All because i dont want to spend $400 for the whole tuffy set up but would like the storage space underneath..
