fiberglass panels for m100 trailers
WE are only providing information. I have close down my shop and retired . So now means no money and lots of time. over the years have seen many different m100 m416 trailers some army some not. Most 1/4 t trailers that where WW2 seam to be 38 & a 1/2 wide. There where many that made different sides so when we made replacement panels we use slip molds. To make what was need .We could make them as deep are as wide as you want.So I been ask to make a repair panel for a WW2 dump trailer and a custom trailer for a harbor freight 40" by 48 trailer with no this how I will do it.

looking right
When you plan to do a custom fiberglass m100 are m416 trailer you need to plan it out.
I say the best is to start in the back and do your planing from there. The fast and cheapest is no tailgate and smooth sides .LET ME SAY!
It's to look like a MILITARY TRAILER it can not have smooth sides that like a 1942 Harley Davidson XA 750 military made in north Korea and painted pink need I say more! When you have the resets it make it stronger. and looks right
If you plan to have it crest rivers everyday then have no tailgate.
Think what you will use as a gate do you want to have it look like the real deal have a gate go all the way a cross are do you want it to mach your tow rig .new jeep tailgates can be found for $100 are so .If you want to keep the 16" height like the real deal you will have to cut the gate down 1" are make the sides 1" higher . if you want the bed to be deeper then you need two cut and welded together think of the lip in the box .are a alum. tailgate are something more mad max's . It's your trailer.

A few thinks that will make your fiberglass M100 trailer die faster ,all from poor planing are just greed from whom did the fiberglass #ONE the worst go's back to the tailgate planning .IT'S FIBERGLASS being glass it will break down at the hings if there hung on just the fiberglass at the bottom . What dos'e the most damage is the lever affect . When you pull some thing across when it is open even when it's closed that tailgate is pounding up and down and right to left . Most that do this SUPPER bad plan are trying to get a deeper bed ..Please make wood sides . When the hings breaks out, and it will you may never see it tell your on the freeway and your load hit the car behind you!!!!!

#two is just to thin of fiberglass .Some will do the fiberglass thick where you can see the ends and paper thin the rest of it .

# 3 If it has a in side lip at the top that folds to just a 90 then back down It will grab ever thing and dump it when you try to pull over the side and is very week .
I have try to load some pictures but no luck so working on it

Well working on the pictures .and trying to redo the molds .I talk to the new owner of the molds and was told I could use them to build 1 are 2 trailers as they do a kit them shelf they sell on e-bay.
So in a few days I will pick them up. You can tell there kit as it has reset in the side and it over hangs the sides by 1"

daunsglassic 03-06-2014 05:20 AM This a picture of bad planing and to thin . Having a round top may look right but just try to make a hardcover this was a replace panel that we had to make stronger . They pay over $200 to have made It crack in two days after we fix it never heard back made it 2 time thicker and box the top ..We did not make the first panel just repaird it

Now that you know what you want it to look like.I hope it dose not look just like a box on a trailer they had lips that over hung the sides .
. BUT YOU DON'T NEED ANY FANCY MOLDS .I will be doing the m416/ batam .I want a full tailgate THAT DOSE NOT HAS A 4" LIP TO HAVE TO LIFT OVER AND DROP SOME THING ON AND CRACK IT. What will be done is you Will make the lips for the top, bottom and side then bound them to flat panels.that you make On your wife glass table. She say you never do anything with her after she will never ask again . Most will be 90 s if you want a round top lip think of a upside down J yes a J. yes it that easy.

For this Fiberglass trailer I will need.
16'4" of top rail that will be 1"
bottom !6' rail to bolt to the frame 2"
For the front lip Will be 3"about 3' 6" this fiberglass trailer will have a opening tailgate all the way a cross ,will pick up a jeep tailgate back panel from E bay to show what it's look like .
this the only mold you will need you can use any thing that has a 90% old bed frame are what ever.

For this to work you have to have RESIN THAT HAS NO WAX !!!!!!!!!!!!!
When laying up your 90%. To do the 3" one you cut fiberglass 3" then one 2&1/2" then 2" when you lay it up you want it to tapper that is what you will lay in the flat panel that will have 2 layers then your 90% then at lest 2 more layers .
There some box on a frame kits that just use 3 layers of 1.5oz mat

daunsglassic 03-13-2014 05:44 PM

When you lay up your 90% think about the sides if doing a HF 40" X 48 it will be best to do just a 45% are you push out the top over 48" if you did the 60 %. As I am copying a trailer kit I know it puts it out to far to be 48" on top the kit I am copying is 6 layers so you have 2 layers under 90% then 4 on top . The 3 layer kit are for just being on the road . You can work it and tear it in half in about 10 minuets.

daunsglassic 03-13-2014 09:03 PM

Oh no I made a mistake

To do the 3" one you cut fiberglass 3" then one 2&1/2" then 2" when you lay it up you want it to tapper that is what you will lay in the flat panel that will have 2 layers then your 90% then at lest 2 more layers .

daunsglassic 03-14-2014 04:27 PM

This was done as a small panel to show what will happen. If you look close you can see the 90% that was layup .It's a little darker

daunsglassic 03-25-2014 06:34 PM

This is the M 100 kit I am copying .
When you look at the bottom it covers part of the frame not just a box on a frame and it has resets that what makes it look Military this for the 48" X 40 1/2" HF frame

I am sorry I sold the co and was told that the new owners did not plan to use the molds. And it was OK to show how anyone could make there own kit .. After doing replacement panels for over 30 years ! The new owners have said it's great to show anyone that want's to make there own . Even though there going in to production them shelf. Well a new up start said that I stole there copy right and have got me band from few forms for trying to show how to do one at a low cost . Well at 72 I am to old to deal with BS like that. so if you look at the pictures it not that hard to do it's just a few angles tided together.

I have ask Two of FC04 buyers to post there builds here . One is doing a fiberglass component chuck wagon top. We all know times are hard for some , are they just want to do there own its not hard at all. So sorry and good luck

daunsglassic 07-01-2014 01:13 AM

daunsglassic 07-01-2014 01:17 AM
