Is this a legitamte fear....?

I have to say that as a proud jeep owner I'm scared. With GM closing the door on hummers are 4 door jeeps the next best thing? These fears are not without warrent. I was driving on the interstate and going the other way(reason there is no pics) i saw a yellow 4 dr jeep with big chrome spoked "BALLER" rims. i was in such a state of shock that i almost hit a car in the other lane. Instance #2- I passed a 4dr that looked like they were going camping for the weekend. Had a canoe on the roof along with fishing roads, bikes, and on the back carrier an ice chest, get along side see father and son. all is good right? WRONG!!!!!!!!!! Do you know what he had on the hood.....that balck thing the all the hummers have on their hoods!!! WTF!!! Are we going to be bagging friendlies soon, are we going to be the next best thing to hummer wanters, are our brethren the 4 dr in danger?
PLease someone shed some light on the situation, PLEASE tell me I'm wrong that these 2 insatances were a fluke and i'll never see them again. I havent slept right since. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Cons_Table 06-17-2010 09:50 AM

Well they do look very similar as some have posted in the past. I also think that the matching color hard tops on the 2011 models is going to make them even closer to looking like a hummer

InfernoGirl 06-17-2010 09:51 AM

Your fears are unfounded. There are already plenty of street Jeeps... Those of us who love them for what they are, should rejoice that Unlimiteds will be in such high demand for a while. It gives us security that Jeep will stay in business for quite some time, and when the time comes, there will be plenty of under molested (not that hard to change baller wheels) used Jeeps available, and in the bone yards for years to come..... :)

PTaylor 06-17-2010 09:54 AM

I'd say no, it will never happen. even if they did "focus on their core money makers" and stopped making Jeeps, at some point they would start back up. I doubt they would ever sell the Jeep name.

That said, I work with several automotive people who've worked for Chrysler, some are Engineers and some are whatever. I call them BS artist.

Anyway, after being around these people, I've come to realize that logic doesn't apply. so what makes sense to you and me is totally opposite to them. Kinda like the bizarro world or something. Think I'm wrong? Just take a look at the Dodge Magnum, what idiot dreamed this thing up? A hemi powered station wagon? when gas prices were going up? the commercial shows some guy loading stuff in the back like it's a truck and then revving the engine.

and they thought that would sell.

I heard that the H3 was nothing more than an Avalanche with a different body. Maybe it was the h2, Maybe it's not true at all, irrelevant anyway.

I like the idea of a four door Jeep. I hate the stock four door Jeep though. When I heard they were coming out with it I was ready to trade mine in. then I saw it and never even test drove it. they've got some cool aftermarket stuff to make it look good but damn, you spend that much money for one, than dump several thousand more into it to make it look.......manly.

I figure I'll wait a few years, get one used and fix it up the way I want it.

InfernoGirl 06-17-2010 09:57 AM

Maggies are cool! :) Several friends drive them, and love them.... :)

AfterMath 06-17-2010 10:01 AM

I think Hummer drivers may look towards Range Rovers and the like.

jayc 06-17-2010 10:04 AM

I'm not saying they're going to sell the name. My fear lies with the idea that when people can no longer get a hummer they'll go to the next best thing....A jeep. Then we'll be infested with chromed out hummer wanna bes with lambo doors, matching hard tops, chrome shackles ect. I like where you head is inferno girl, more people buy them for whatever reason then inturn jeeps are pumped out harder and faster with an excess for parts and or cheaper used jeeps expanding our comunity. But at what cost?

TommyChill 06-17-2010 10:05 AM

People bought Hummers for their social impact (neg or pos)... Almost a status symbol...

People buy Jeeps for different reasons...

toshpate 06-17-2010 10:08 AM

well, they are making 2 wd wranglers again right? stupid stupid stupid.........pointless at best

PTaylor 06-17-2010 10:13 AM

I like the original hummer, but the cost to own and repair was just outrageous. It was never meant for typical people to own and drive. Then came the H2, I didn't like that. then the h3, and that thing is just downright ugly.

IMO, they did to the hummer what Chrysler is doing to the Jeep, they are taming it, making it more of a family vehicle. If it makes them money, then they will keep it up. If it doesn't then they will change it. If it's a complete loss, they will can the Jeep for some time. If they get real bad off, they'll start selling off names.

don't think I'm wrong, when the "big 3" were having their financial woes, guess who was looking at them very closely....China.

yeah, there is a slim possibility that at some future point China could own the Jeep name and be making them. don't believe it, do some research.

I'm not saying it will happen, but it is one possibility. I know for a fact that they were talking to China. again do some Googling.

JIMBOX 06-17-2010 10:13 AM

 If you don't like the way a HUMMER looks--don't buy one

If you think the JK "unlimited" looks like a HUMMER, just buy one and MODIT

If your social comfort is more important to you than you and your families comfort, you should start drinking --a lot !!

:rofl::rofl: JIMBO

bentol888 06-17-2010 11:16 AM

Jeeps and Hummers are 2 totally different things. Like apples and oranges. I dont see why people get so caught up in always comparing the two.

The Jeep is a very durable off-road machine, not built for comfort or highway driving. It sits high and boxy, does'nt have great pickup, noisy, and at times leaky and squeeky. You can personalize a Jeep thousands of different ways with thousands of different parts, top down, top up, sunrider, doors on, off, half etc.... You belong to a group that waves (most times) and would help a fellow Jeeper no matter what.

It is also the most fun youll ever have on (or off) the road hands down!

Hummer 2 + 3 dont really have any of those things! They are expensive SUV's that are somewhat comfortable to take on road trips and if you try to do serious climbing in one, you'll end up stuck or with a broken axle which has happened TWICE to a friend of mine in Moab (h3).

Im pretty sure you have nothing to worry about ( and why would you anyway??)

I was playing on some roads a week or so ago and this 4 door Wrangler was in my path and stuck. Some young guy with no experience and his girl friend got themselves hung up on some ruts. I asked him how he got stuck with 4 wheel drive and he tells me it is only 2 wheel drive. I did not know they even made 2 wheel drive Wranglers. I mean, WTF is with that. :9lame:

YAHAHA 06-17-2010 12:26 PM

I say we start bagging Commanders, Patriots & Liberties now... don't wait.

JIMBOX 06-17-2010 12:39 PM

Hey, I loved my Commander. It's probably the only reason I'm here today. So I'll never bag one...

I think we should refrain from hunting family.. Jeeps are off limits.. it's cannibalism.. Or terrorism..

You are correct. I was surprised to find out it is one big@ss airbag. I always thought it was three separate ones. Didn't do anything to save my ribs, but all I had was a scrape on my head from it. Seeing how far the side and roof came in from the impact, without that airbag, I'm sure I'd be getting coloring books for Christmas for the rest of my life.
