Off Roading in NJ?

Hey guys... I live in northern NJ and am just looking for some new places to take the Jeep. I've been by the trails up in west milford a little with a bike but never a jeep, the same with down by Toms River. Just lookin for some new spots, near of far.... preferably somewhat legal. :D thanks

SurfNaked2010 06-19-2010 07:11 AM

the only legal place in jersey is Waretown State Forest. but ill stick with my chances with a lotttttt of other places lol. im from toms river area and theres a lot of spots people dont know about.

Pontiackid87 06-19-2010 04:00 PM

If you wana come down my way theres a small mudhole me and a few friends go to..

There's actually a ton of places in southern Jersey to go to. Most of the Pine Barrens are legal to go through, you just have to be careful for when walking paths start and the trails end. I have a few locals spots near me that I frequent all just intertwined trails along Ft. Dix and the Pine Barrens. There's also Whartons State Park which is the big area to go in Jersey. There are the Butterfly Bogs in Jackson, NJ. You have some spots off Rt. 70 heading towards LBI. There's Island Beach State Park. You've got Bass River. You've got Apple Pie Hill. There's tons of things down here, ya just gotta get in touch with people who know the areas.

And SurfNaked, Waretown isn't the only legal place. Most of the Pine Barrens are open to registered and licensed vehicles, and you're in the clear as long as your not clearing your own paths.

In North Jersey, check out places around Warren County where it's still pretty rural.

i knew there were a bunch of trails in the pine barrens, just never knew my way around that area. hows the waretown forrest?, maybe ill check it out next time i go down to lbi.

wrangler forum does not condone wildcatting. if there is any mention of illegal wheeling, this thread will be deleted.

wheeling in wharton state forest is legal, just make sure you visit a ranger's station and verify that the trails that you are going to be on are open to the public at that time. sometimes they close trails for certain reasons, but the ranger's station will be able to help you with which one's to avoid. the atsion ranger's station on rt. 206 is a good place to start. rausch creek off road park is another good place to wheel. it is located in tremont, pa. i live in the flemington, nj area, and it takes us about 2 hours to get there, and one of the guys we go wheeling with is from north jersey, it take him about 2 hours as well.

 ain't no one discussing wildcatting or anything illegal, most of the pine barrens are open to vehicles that are registered.

Anyone interested in meeting up this Sunday 10/9?

Me and a friend are taking our jeeps out to the Pine Barrens and we have no idea what we're doing. Anyone interested in meeting up with us or showing us some cool trails we could take? We'll buy you a beer or two in return :) We're going on Sunday 10/9.

ndrugby 08-28-2012 04:03 PM

Anybody been to Penndel, PA. I know it's not in NJ, but it seems it's only an hour from me in central NJ. Looks like trails on 2 sides of a river with some water fording. Someone mentioned it in another thread. Here are the GPS cords:

I'm going Sept 7, 8, 9. Need info on what campsites are closest to the best trails.

theres so many nice trails back there, been going there since 07ish, with friends and their trucks. ive never camped there but i was there a week or so ago and when we came out of this one (pretty fun) trail, the park ranger station and one campsite was right there. im sure theres tons of info available online. hidden lakes is the place to be for bonfires, rope swings, and drinking:punk:. although i believe you are not "legally" supposed to be back there since its a conservation area. its funny though last time i was there, there was a wrangler flipped over in one of the lakes

badkarma 08-28-2012 07:11 PM

Awesome my dad was back there in the 70s when there was concerts and crazy stuff

BadMojo11 08-28-2012 09:39 PM

I've been to Penndel a bunch of times with a bunch of different jeepers. Awesome trails. Pretty technical. Anytime a stock jeep comes with us they need get stuck or break down. Do not recommend this place for stock jeeps.

Sounds good to me! I could use to improve my technical skills.

BadMojo11 08-28-2012 09:53 PM

I'd be down to go sometime soon. I know of about 5-6 jeeps that I go with who would be down as well. I'm pretty busy on weekends for the next couple weeks though. And three of the other guys are military and schedule depends on duty assignments. Anyways, my number is 609.672.7253. Name is Chris. Anyone interested ever just text me.
