Soft top - Wrangler 2009 Unlimited 4 Door - knuckle?
Hello all, I didn't see this question posted anywhere else, so I apologize if it has been asked and answered.
I had just put the top down last night and noticed the "arms" were separated on the driver's side. There is a metal piece that connects the two arms, one goes into the knuckle, the other just goes through the metal and into the arm. The screw must have broken or rattled out, since now the pieces are no longer connected. Does the replacement knuckle come with the "connector" piece and additional screw ... or do I need to go to Lowe's and find a replacement? I have been to two dealers and called a third, none have just the screw.
Any advice or do I just fork over the $38 for a new knuckle?
Thanks for any ideas or advice!
It's a "shoulder bolt" and you can probably find it at a good hardware store. Look for those little gray bins full of "weird" connectors.
Take the one out from the other side to match it up.
If you can't find a good match, you can use a pin and clip. Just make sure it fits snugly, yet still allows for the bows to rotate. It has to fit well - there's a lot of wind pressure/weight on that connection while you're driving down the highway. Lots of people do this type of thing just to make it easier to take the whole top off.
Yeah, for new Jeep owners - there should be a note that at x amount of miles, tighten all bolts! Several of our shoulder bolts have shaken out to the point that the top's arms or whatever are only being held in by the velcro strap, lol. It's been a good excuse to not put the top up when it rains.
I'm glad to know the name of the piece though, I keep intending to retain the JK from my husband to fix that and have its maintenance done.
