UHaul Trailer and Jeep Soft Tops

I was turned away today from renting a UHail open top trailer with my Jeep soft top.

Anyone else have this problem?

It's their policy. Pick up the trailer with a different SUV. Borrow one from a friend or family member, then just use your Jeep.

They are scared of the liablity and considering our lawsuit crazy soceity, I don't blame them.... It maybe worth just buying a trailer too.... once you have one you will be surprised at how often you will use it with a Jeep... Places like Northern Tool sell small utility trailers at reasonable prices Trailers | Trailers + Trailer Parts | Northern Tool + Equipment

:rolleyes: Not a good idea to pick up the trailer with another vehicle, then tow it with your jeep, if something happens on the hiwy, you're in DEEP CACA

Insurance/law suits/license--fagetaboutit

:rofl::rofl: JIMBO

And then not be covered for liability in any accident you may get into. I'd read the fine print in the contract very carefully. Find another vendor to rent a trailer from? Or get a different tow vehicle. Or purchase a trailer since you have a jeep and will probably use it a lot before you sell the jeep. Or borrow a trailer from a friend.

I have a covered utility trailer and it is registered and insured on my jeep insurance policy.

This is directly from a U-Haul publication.

I have 3 trailers and use them regularly. Always hauling different things and using them to store materials.

@PecosRiver

You beat me by one trailer. At least the ones I have on the road and insured. I have two others that sit in my yard unused at the moment.

So....I'll see your three and raise you one!! :p :eek: :D

You can never have too many trailers :punk:

As best as I can tell, if you do the switcheroo and something happens like a flat tire, you pay for the tire, no problem. If something happens like you get into an accident, you just bought yourself a trailer........

I have a garbage scow for our daily trash, a 16' utility flatbed, and a 10' ATV hauler. While the 10' trailer could have been eliminated by the 16' trailer, I bought it right and use the crap outta it.

As for trailers, I also own 3 campers that I rent to a campground near Santa Fe to be used as rental campers. Used to use them in my campground until the state condemned the septic field. Closed the campground at that time. When we were open, we'd get around $30/night for each camper and they were popular.

I also just bought an old 1965 Airstream that I plan to rebuild for my own usage.

As for trailers, I'm well heeled with them, but I only use the 3 regularly.

I just put on a helmet and U Haul considers that a hard top! Actually the on line U Haul web site will give you the maximum trailer size for jeeps. I rented a trailer in NY and the dealer did not say anything. If you go to the official U Haul store I hear they might give you a hard time but the franchisee guys don't know any better or don't care.

volfireman07 06-21-2010 06:35 AM

U-Haul won't rent any trailer to a Ford Sport Trac owner.

I rented a trailer a month ago from a franchise - picked it up with the Jeep, sans top and doors, and no one said a word, except to check my lights...
