I have an opportunity to pick up a front D30 with 4.88 Yukon gears and an ARB, also a rear D44 with 4.88 and a spool. I have an 05 TJ with D30 front and D35 rear with 3.07 now. The question is would this be too much gear? I run 31 tires right now, with a total 0f 3 1/2 inches of lift, but will go to 32's son, but no bigger than 33's. Want to keep the CG down. Thanks.

would be way over kill for 31's and the rear spool will bark all day long. You might want to see how much to get a open carrier in there. How much for the axles is what is all comes down to.

I figured it would be overkill for 31's. I am going to 32's maybe even 33's as soon as I need tires. I am not a big fan of the spool in the rear either. Though I might go to an ARB there as well. I can get both axles for $2K maybe less. The gears and axels are Yukon, with about 15k miles on them. Seems like it might be a good deal. I would have already jumped on them if they had 4.56 or 4.11's.

DO it. The rear upgrade is money in the bank, and the front is an added bonus. It will allow you to go to 35s if you ever desire, which can be done with a 3.5" lift with a little fender trimming and some bumpstops. The spool might not be the best for snowy road conditions, but it will rock off road. You can always add a rear ARB if you want. The front ARB and Yukon axles are worth about $1200 new by themselves. A rear D44 bare housing would be another couple hundred, add gears and a locker and you are easily at your price. You can also sell you current axles to help make up some of the costs.

4.88 on 33's may be a bit much for a 4.0L but for a 2.5L it's an awesome combination. 33's and a 4.0 usually have a recommendation of 4.56, but you'd be okay, just RPM's would be a bit higher than you currently have.
