Slight pinging sound when cluch is released

Hi all, first post!!!
I have a 2002 TJ 6cyl 5 speed

I just purchased it and noticed when I push in the cluch their is no noise, when I release the cluch when it is not in gear a noticable grinding sound appears. It becomes very loud when I turn on the jeep I can hear what sounds like a desel engine stoping.

any help would be great

Noisy idle in neutral, due to gear noise, is common. Mine has done it forever. Press in the clutch and it goes away.
Here's one applicable site re the problem.
