Just bought a Jeep, having problmes

Hey i just bought an 87 jeep wrangler from one of my godfathers friends, it ran great the day i bought it, but started a little mean...The day after the starter went out so the guy i bought it from replaced it. The next day i was driving in the city and the drive shaft fell out of the car. Again the mechanic i bought it from said he could fix it for me. It is extremely clean and a great truck, but im worried about future mechanical problems. Should i get it fixed up, or try to get my money back on the car?

Its a 23 year old Jeep not a car or a truck. If your up for the challenge of learning the tricks to keep it running right then hang on to it and keep coming back here and ask for help when you have problems. It can be a pain when it doesn't run right but its a blast when it does and the knowledge you gain can come in handy. It sounds like the things you have had trouble with are probably due to it not being driven a lot. Once you work the kinks out you'll be fine.

X2

it's old. It needs a little TLC. as long as the engine isn't doing weird stuff and running good, I'd keep it. Driveshafts break, bushings wear, starters and alternators screw up with age, I mean it's an 87. I was 6  that jeep will be ok. Hell I drive an 07 and sh*t breaks and screws up.

IMO Chrysler SUCKS  they make good engines, but everything else is average at best. Replace a few things and take care, that jeep you have will last 300,000 miles. Sometimes more.

Thanks for your help, i think i figured out the problems with the starter are due to a clogged up carberator, im having a mechanic look at it today and hopefully he'll be able to help me fix the kinks

Hey, the guy keeps fixing it so the hell with it, ride that train as long as you can. but see if he minds if you work with him on it, that way you can pick up a few things for when you're on your own. Plus if you make nice while you're both working on the Jeep together you have a shop to work in, and tools at your disposal. Just a thought.
