1st post - 1st Jeep - One question..

Hey folks,

Great forum BTW.

I just bought a new 2010 Wrangler Sport, standard tranny. Reason I mention the standard is i'm not even sure this is an issue but it's odd.

I've driven standards before but for some reason when I am on a slight incline / hill the Jeep tends to not want to move. yes sounds weird but its like having the emergency brake on to the max and trying to take off.

I get this whining noise and then I have to put my foot on the brake push the clutch down and make sure its in gear (which I know it is)

Then I give it a little more power on the pedal - it takes off but bucks or jumps.

Very annoyed but maybe its just me not used to the Jeep, the hill and the power to release the clutch and press the pedal on this incline?? I mean it should be a smooth process.

I haven't contacted the svr. dept. yet.

Anyone else fimiliar with this?

TIA!

Welcome to the forum!!! You are describing the "hill start assist" feature. It just takes some getting use to.

InfernoGirl 06-28-2010 04:09 PM

Yep ^^^ that's it! Welcome to the forum, too, btw! :)

silvrevo 06-28-2010 04:11 PM

Its a nice feature on new cars. But be careful when you drive a car without it. You will freak out when you start rolling back on a hill. If not right into the car behind you!!!

JDsDream 06-28-2010 04:16 PM

Well that was easy, soooo Hi and Welcome to the Forum.

TrueNorth 06-28-2010 04:24 PM

Welcome.

Don't forget out on the highway, you have a 6th gear!

SilverFun 06-28-2010 04:58 PM

Welcome ! I disabled my hill assist. I just couldn't get use to it. I have driven manuals for years so hills don't bother me.

N39-W120 06-28-2010 05:33 PM

welcome to the forum!...

firehawk_1989 06-28-2010 05:34 PM

Yep, these guys got it for you! Kind of a cool feature however I'm not sure what I think of it. If people are learning on a new Wrangler, they will never truely learn driving a stick, because part of it is learning HOW to start on a hill. Haha. I never knew you could disable this feature though!

OH! Welcome and enjoy your Wrangler! :)

JeepFrogger 06-28-2010 05:38 PM

Welcome!

Ageless Stranger 06-28-2010 06:14 PM

Welcome to WF. That was an easy question. Try to make it more difficult next time... ;) Oh and do you have any pictures of this alleged Jeep that is doing this? We LOVE pictures!

Barrie 06-28-2010 06:19 PM

Welcome.:wavey:

h2otoo 06-28-2010 06:55 PM

Yes, welcome. I too disabled the hill assist. Nice idea, but not needed, for sure.

Cool..

Hey thx folks! :D

I will try and make it a little tougher next time lol

Well thats def. the issue - well its supposed to be that way.

I found some info. on the web about it. How do you disable it? I will give it more time I just don't want to burn out my clutch! :blunt:

I will take another look at the manual but man this thing is bear! They give you instructions about taking down the softtop but anything else I had to Google i.e DTS, ECO, needing a T50 bolt to take off the doors, drain plugs, etc.. How come the manual is so non-informative??

Couple pics so far I have won't upload. I'm an IT guy and my pics are well under the max requirements. I made sure in Photoshop. Upload keep failing as a jpeg and bmp. Any ideas on this one?

Ageless Stranger 06-28-2010 07:54 PM

Host the photos somewhere else. I use PicasaWeb from Google. The host site will give you a link. Come over here and click this button above http://cdn.wranglerforum.com//images...nsertimage.gif and paste the addy you took from the picture host. That's it! :D

Tactics,

On Picasa pull the picture up you want to link. To the right you will see an option that says "Link to this photo." When you click that some more options will drop down. I check the box that says Image only (no link) and select the size you want. I use large. Then click in the box that says Embed image above it. It will highlight all of the text inside the box automaticly. Right click and copy. That is what you want to post inside the [IMG] [/IMG] tags.

So should I not bother looking in to disabling HSA? am I going to screw something over time before I perfect this feat? lol

SilverFun 06-29-2010 11:41 AM

I'm not sure if i googled it or if it was in the owners manual to disable the hill assist. I just checked google and you can find how to disable the hill assist there. Good luck

TDCoffee 06-29-2010 12:28 PM

As far as the Hill Start Assist- It took me a bit to get used to as well, (haveing driven manual trans for a long time) I notice however that if you do not press the brake all the way to the floor, but just enough to stop the jeep, the Hill Assist (or HA! as I like to call it), won't engage. It's nice to be able to choose on the fly rather than completely disabling it.

Tactics 06-29-2010 05:59 PM

ok cool i'll try that and I read that before. I'll check my manual also.

thx

Owner's manuals are written by attorneys to try and prevent lawsuits.

I've read mine from cover to cover and there's no warning about driving with a cup of scalding hot fast food coffee between my legs - I think I'm gonna be rich !!

Tactics 08-12-2010 09:13 AM

I finally got the actual owners manual in the mail... ?? I was like this does not come with the Jeep you have to request it.. wow! I called custmer service I believe but after reading I found a lot of good info. on my Jeep including the Hill Assist..

Loving it so far!
