Doors off for the first time

I decided to take the doors off yesterday. This is my first Jeep and the first time for me to take the doors off her. Liked it so much that I drove her into work today.

but here is a pic from yesterday.

P.S. the wife though it was cool that jeep doors were sitting in the spare bedroom....haha:punk:

EP_00' 07-20-2010 08:08 AM

i remember the first time i did that.. so excited to finally get the doors off in 101 degree weather totally forgot i couldnt drive without a a mirror.. had to put the doors back on to go to the auto parts store.. to make a little mirror rig.

still was an amazing experience. i kept my doors on my roomates bed.. they were surprised when they got home.

As I understand it Texas only requires you to have one working mirror. So I rollin without side mirrors. I will get some eventually.

monteYJ 07-20-2010 08:24 AM

Hehe your co-pilot looks ready to go!

Vroooom 07-20-2010 08:38 AM

Correct. TX-Motor Vehicle Code only REQUIRES 1 mirror (Section 547.602 ).

HOWEVER.... Mirrors exist for more than mere regulatory compliance.

You MIGHT wanna consider something like these:
Tapered Mirrors - Black Short Stem | Harley-Davidson USA

.....or similar.

I cant wait to get my top and doors off!!!!!

yes harley mirrors will work. but can cost a bit. if you can find a harley mirror for about 30 i say buy it. if you are good with your hands i say make it, it took me about 15 dollars, a trip to the auto parts store, and 10 minutes to do it.

I agree 100%. On the way into work today I changed lanes only to merge. I didn't realize how much I used them to monitor my surroundings. I kept trying to check to see what traffic was doing behind me only to find myself starring into the abyss that was my mirror.

And to double that I ride a motorcycle, sometimes we can sneak up and without mirrors it increases the chance that I wont see them.

ttuley 07-20-2010 08:51 AM

what about some of these.....haha

My jeep is identical to this one besides some mods.. blue sport 4.0.. and most of the time with a dog.

Vroooom 07-20-2010 09:04 AM

Those would ROCK!!! :) LMAO
Good looking Jeep.
Great looking co-pilot.
Yeah....you forget how much you use your mirrors....even monitoring them in your periferal-vision.
Until I got my TJ last month, my daily driver was a suburban with factory mirrors that feel like the size of dinner-plates. Occasionally, my wife lets me drive her Corvette and her mirrors feel like tiny little dental inspection mirrors. Somewhat disconcerting at first.
But yeah....merging without mirrors (even topless) must have a pucker-factor of about 6 or 7.
Keep your head on a swivel. :)

ttuley 07-20-2010 09:06 AM

Austin is very dog friendly(not that Rome Georgia isn't, I wouldn't know).

So he goes everywhere with the jeep. Besides he gets anxiety when my wife or I pick up the keys.

:rofl::rofl:

drivebytruckerz 07-20-2010 09:08 AM

Yeah, it's a dog friendly town here too.. My Jeep is his favorite of the two we have.. he is in heaven when he's in it.

InfernoGirl 07-20-2010 09:08 AM

Jeep looks great, but it'll look even better without the door surrounds.... ;)

Vroooom 07-20-2010 09:08 AM

EP,
I'm afraid that if I mounted those on my ride, I'd go from checking my mirrors....

.....to STARING at my mirrors.

Besides..... reduced blood-flow to my BRAIN would be bad.... while driving. :)

ttuley 07-20-2010 09:11 AM

thanks infernogirl.....is my newb showing?

I have the Olympic Safari mirrors and am very happy with them.

Nah! Just a friendly suggestion! :) And if you stick around here, the newb will be gone in a heartbeat.... ;)

drivebytruckerz 07-20-2010 09:19 AM

Yeah, the door surrounds off when the top is down/doors are off looks sweet.

Vroooom 07-20-2010 09:21 AM

BDark,
I likes those!!!!
I think they just became my favorites.
But sticking up that far from their mounting-point, are they super-sensative to vibration???
But I REALLY like the bigger mirror. NICE.
Thanks for sharing.

danthebugman 07-20-2010 02:36 PM

Thread Hijacking warning....are the door surrounds a hassle to remove/replace?

Also, I am loving the puppy in the front seat....nice posture! woof!

drivebytruckerz 07-20-2010 02:45 PM

Nope. Unscrew with the knobs and lift them out. Pull up on the surrounds and out away from the bar at the same time. Screw the knobs back in, fold them, and there you have it. They'll even fit in the cargo area.

danthebugman 07-20-2010 02:59 PM

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I will go and do it now.

Oh, and, consider the thread officially un-hijacked now. :-)
