The first known publicly available photos of the new Toledo-made 2011 Jeep Wrangler have found their way onto the Internet, and it looks as though Chrysler Group LLC is making good on a promise to overhaul the iconic vehicle's styling.

Both the two-door Wrangler and the four-door Wrangler Unlimited appear to have color-coordinated removable roofs for 2011 — a feature that was previously only available for customers who had ordered a black vehicle to match the black roof.
The photos — which appear to have been taken recently by an employee in Chrysler's Wrangler plant at its Toledo Assembly Complex and posted on a public site accessed by The Blade — would mark the new models' first public appearance.
In its five-year business plan unveiled in November, Chrysler indicated that it intended to mark the Jeep brand's 70th anniversary in 2011 with commemorative models. The company also indicated it would refresh the Wrangler's interior this year, and its exterior in 2011. However, no images of the newly-styled vehicles have been released by the automaker.
In April, The Blade revealed the first shots of Chrysler's new now critically-acclaimed 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee when one of the vehicles was left parked on a street near the newspaper's offices.

The Jeep Trail Edition camper was revealed Tuesday morning.

While the Grand Cherokee is the first new vehicle released by Chrysler after it emerged from bankruptcy protection more than a year ago, Jeep brand President Michael Manley has indicated that the iconic Toledo-made Jeep Wrangler would continue to serve as “the anchor of the Jeep brand.” The automaker has since released specialized “Islander” and “Mountain” editions of the Wrangler that were well-received by dealers and customers, and has continued to venture into new ways to exploit the vehicle's history and off-road image.

Jeep and Mopar, Chrysler's parts and customization division, unveiled on Tuesday morning a new line of matching off-road pop-up campers for the Wrangler line. The campers, which range in price between about $10,000 and $12,000, feature large, off-road tires, high ground clearance, and sleeping space for up to four.

The matching color tops make them look more like...*pardon my language*...hummers

KBR97 07-21-2010 10:58 AM

that or maybe even a landrover too.

I like the regular black hardtops.

Nice observation. I was told by someone on another forum who works at the factory that the windshield would be noticeably different.

KBR97 07-21-2010 11:26 AM

The JKs do have a curve in the windshield but I cant tell in those pics if its any more than whats normal.

mrcarcrazy 07-21-2010 11:26 AM

Looks like Jeep is doing what they've been doing for years. Adding more "creature comforts" and other car-like "qualities" to appeal to the masses.

This didn't turn out too well for the Hummer brand, I hope Jeep sees that.

I think it looks ugly w/ the body colored top. I like the utilitarian look of the TJ and older Jeeps. Maybe Jeep is trying to ensure that JK stands for Joke :p

And I was just talking to the wife about how cool it was that if you put two Jeeps from 60 yrs apart next to each other you could see the definite lineage...that's becoming less and less true w/ each new model.

Thats what I thought. Any pics of older JK windsheilds dont look any different than the ones you posted here of the new ones...not that I can see anyways

KBR97 07-21-2010 11:29 AM

As long as Jeep keeps the platform of the Jeeps then add all the comfort options they want. If anything this is a good thing for Jeep...more sales, more money.

carnut08 07-21-2010 11:46 AM

The article is gone already!

The only difference I see is the color coordinated top and the front bumper. That's hardly an "overhaul" of the exterior...thank goodness!

By the way, several JK owners seem surprised that the windshield is curved. I suggest you go and look at yours...the windshield on ALL JKs have been curved since day one.

silvrevo 07-21-2010 11:48 AM

Looks like G Wagon !!!

And good idea to have a curve to the windsheild,,, not so much of a flying brick anymore!

I like it alot so far. Even the Chick White 2 door. Right up my alley.

Cant wait to turn mine in and get one............ : )

I would like to see interior pics. Thats what was rumored to have a decent amount of changes.

toshpate 07-21-2010 12:38 PM

Not too thrilled with the color-matched top. I feel the same way about the matched fender flares (sorry Sahara owners). Too monochrome for me.

I've seen pics here of Saharas on the trail. Do the painted fender flares get scratched and chipped more than the black plastic ones do?

I've got some scratches on my hardtop panels, but figure I can hit them with Krylon black some day such that it would not be too much a mismatch. Might be tougher with a color matched top.

toshpate 07-21-2010 02:10 PM

anyone else see the resemblance to the nitros? or the "New" liberties, I swear make it four door and it is just a convertable liberty

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!?!!? This is just going to attract more mall crawlers and most of these new Jeeps will NEVER see anything put boring pavement. I'm sick of Jeep/Chrysler trying to appeal to more people so they can make more money. Jeeps shouldn't be like that. It's just wrong. I hate JKs and will never buy one until they come up with something good.

I'll keep and run my YJ until the tires fall off - then bolt on a new set, refresh the power plant, and do it all again, thankyouberrymuch....

:)

(on a personal standpoint, I *LOVE* knowing that if I get a dent, scratch, smudge, or drip, I just don't care that much. I'll find it, fix it, repair it, ignore it, and go again.....) Not to mention, I can't afford the price of the new(er) Jeeps!
:)

I'm painting my tan hardtop black tomorrow and adding a few new toys - I wouldntcouldntshouldnt think of doing anything like that to my "other" car...

I had a Samurai tintop once, and one day at the park was right next to a guy in a Mercedes G Wagon. Both silver. It was amazing how close they looked. When I told my wife that the GWagon was about 100k, she laughed.

I think the painted fender flares do scratch eaiser. I'm pretty sure little old ladies put their purses and groceries on them when their getting in their car and I'm parked next to them -- only reason I can see anyway, because I have several scuff patches and no idea how they got their.

IMHO The JK's are stock better than any other model. But they are getting worse and worse looking. Thanks chrysler for ruining an iconing brand because you went into debt.

Well FIAT owns you now, so this isnt American thinking...

Anyways, I'll keep my TJ. People with JK's now keep it, dont upgrade please. I atleast like the first gen JK's

daggo66 07-21-2010 08:10 PM

Everybody's getting all wacky about a bumper that will only be in Europe because their laws require it and a painted hard top that will be an option on the Sahara. Everyone bitched and moaned about the plastic interior and now no one is happy that they changed it. WTF?

IndyJeepMan 07-21-2010 08:12 PM

Its not the bumper or the top, or what it looks like inside. Its all the changes that they are doing to make it more appealing to people that could careless about the reason that vehicle was made for, nor for the history of the Jeep. It'll only get worse.

KBR97 07-21-2010 08:12 PM

Bunch of crankpots around here lately, lol.
