Replacing Windshield Wiper Motor

Ok, so I'm going to try to replace my windshield wiper motor because the wipers no longer work, and the motor seems to be the culprit. I've been looking online and it says I have to fold down the windshield and other stuff. I thought you could just unscrew the panel right under the windshield frame, take it off, and replace the motor? I am kind of confused..What's the correct way to do this?

You DO NOT need to fold down the windshield!

Wipers off the posts, unscrew the panel you mentioned.
Remove old motor.
Install new motor.
Replace aforementioned panel.
Replace wipers. Done.

OK....So for once I jealous of the TJ's. On a YJ you need to fold the windshield over.

Allllright. It all makes sense now! Thanks for the help. I take it thats its really easy to replace? Just connect the wires to the right places

Right, theres not a lot too it. I bought the replacement motor at AutoZone for $95 I think. The only issue (and it was a pretty small one by Jeep stardands) was that some of the color coded wires didnt match. Not a huge deal, but I did blow a fuse or two in the process of trying to figure them out.

Hey guys, need some quick help here. Its snowing in Minneapolis and my wipers have been moving real slow. On the way home they went real slow and stopped working half way home. Sound like the wiper motor to you?

How do I get the wipers off the post? Do I just pull?

thanks for the help.

Fold the wiper to the upright position then slide the tab perpendicular from the post.... should pop right off. Make sure u get the 2 hidden torx screws under the rubber between the hood and the vented plate where the motor is located

lift the wiper arm up twards the hood look at the bottom of the arm you'll see a tab pull it down with your thumb and the arm will pull off .....

Do not force anything it will come off

i work at CME automotive. we make winshelid wiper motors and assemblies, car horns, minvan sliding door motors sunroof motors and someother things.

It cost us 12 dollars to make the motors for the cadillac motors. and that includes parts, labor shipping...everyhting.

we sell them to Gm for about 80 bucks and autozone for about 200 (when its a newer vehicle) we have about 4 or five motor lines producing about 900 a day, each line.

isnt it incrediable what we pay vs. the cost of actually making it.

Hey guys,
I want to say thanks again for the help.

Last night I got it all together and it worked great.
This morning I was pumped to wipe away the road spray for the first time with the new motor. I threw the wipers al the way up to the high setting and BAM!!! The entire dash went black and the stereo went out. I turned it back to the off setting and the stereo and lights came back on. Hmmmm, try the wipers again. They are dead.

Dive to work blind.

I pulled the front wiper fuse and it blew. No big deal but I have two more questions. Did that happen because I through it all the way up to high righ away? Ive always done it in the past with every vheicle Ive ever owned. Am I going to start blowing fuses all the time now?

Thanks!
