rubber spring isolator?

When I put in new taller springs do I remove or keep in the rubber (i believe it's called a spring isolator) piece that is on top of the stock springs?

You would want to keep that in there.

Jerry Bransford 07-27-2010 03:41 PM

X2, keep it in place. :)

mrcarcrazy 07-27-2010 03:54 PM

Unless you like musical springs. (x3 keep em in)

If you end up with a bad one like myself NAPA sells an OE copy for a reasonable price.

Great thank you guys, always there when I need ya!

Now that I have springs I need to decide on shocks. I was thinking the Doetsch tech dt8000's or the RC performance 2.2 shocks what do you guys think?

Jerry Bransford 07-27-2010 05:19 PM

Do you like a firm or softer ride?

bato 07-27-2010 05:23 PM

Guess I'm not sure, something that will be good on and off road, stiff doesn't bother me just want a good shock for the trails.

530ktm 07-28-2010 05:19 PM

OME shocks are great.

x2 on this...

Although if they are out of your price range, Skyjacker hydros are half the price and a decent ride for the money.

Jerry Bransford 07-28-2010 06:08 PM

My '04 came with OME NitroChargers and while the Jeep does handle great with them, they are stiffer riding than I expected and definitely stiffer than the RE Monotubes I installed on my previous TJ.

If I could afford OME I would definitely go that route but unfortunately $90 a shock is a little up there. I was thinking about the doetsch tech dt8000 pre runners, they seem to have good review and there only $40 a piece.

I havent heard much about the doetsch, but I know that the Skyjackers will also run you around the $40 dollars too.

I don't have personal experience with the DT9000 shocks but I understand they are valved for a heavier vehicle than the Wrangler is which would likely make them ride pretty stiffly. I did run the DT3000s for 3-4 years and they had a good ride.

bato 07-28-2010 06:46 PM

thx guys. I was reading here Jeep Shock Installation - Doetsch Tech DT8000

seems like they were a pretty good ride on the TJ. Anyway I will do some more research. One other question though. When I looked at ordering then the options were 2", 3", or 4" of lift. I have 2.5" of lift so should I get the ones made for a 3" or 2"?
