rattle, rattle, leak, leak

I have a 2000 Sport and there is a huge rattle coming from what seems to be under the center of the dash. (HVAC?). It is not affected by braking, acceleration, etc. Also when it rains very hard I get water coming through the passenger firewall where the blower motor mounts. I checked the cowl vent and it is not clogged. Help?

I have the same issue. 3 years ago, my heater core was leaking into the passenger area of my Jeep. I used some stop leak and the problem was fixed. However, now I get the same kind of rattle you do when I'm running the heat. So I have a feeling my heater core or blower motor is about to crap out. You may be having the same issue. Are you sure it's water coming in and not antifreeze? Does this happen when u don't run the heat? Are you getting any other symptoms? Everything on mine works just fine, just hear a little rattle in the dash every now and then, but no leaks.

I was having the same problem with my 2000 tj 4.0. I was getting a puddle on the passenger side floor board after running the ac and driving it far a while. One of the other members told me to put a rubber elbow on the drain tube that comes out of the firewall in the engine compartment and this would stop the leak. What happens is when you drive fast or get on the highway and run the compressor the water is supposed to drain but due to the wind pushing the water it comes back into the passenger side compartment. The drain tube under the hood comes straight out thus letting a flow of air push the water through. What i did was go to autozone and bought a rubber elbow bent at 90 degrees to fit the drain tube and clamped it with a .5 inch hose clamp. No more leak. Hope this helps!!!! I dont know about the rattle though.
