Kansas....

it's flat and boring. :9lame:

JDsDream 07-31-2010 04:52 PM

It's flat, but you have tornadoes so it isn't always boring

Ageless Stranger 07-31-2010 04:55 PM

Hey Tim, Julie. :)

Missouri is pretty flat down south. ;) I'm always happy when I cross the river into Missouri in a single engine Cessna. Then the engine can quit and I can land pretty much anywhere. Not so on the Kentucky side of the mighty Mississippi.

mrcarcrazy 07-31-2010 05:35 PM

My area of Texas is also boring and flat... so don't feel too bad.

at least Wichita has more stuff in it than el dorado, and it doesn't smell like a nasty refinery

J.B. 01-16-2011 10:08 AM

NE Kansas is not flat....maybe boring...it is what you make of it! :D

cavediverjc 01-16-2011 03:19 PM

Landing ANYTHING that flies in Kansas isn't boring. Constant crosswinds keep a pilot on his TOES. Literally. However, navigating these north/south and east/west roads from the air sure is easy!! IFR.......I FOLLOW ROADS :D Plus, you can land ANYWHERE if need be.....

From the ground though, you're right. Pretty boring.

crh1109 01-16-2011 03:33 PM

If KS wasn't flat and boring, then people traveling West wouldn't be AS excited when they finally get to the mountains!!

stangmata 01-16-2011 03:33 PM

Bah. Enter waypoints in FMS, couple autopilot, nap. Who needs roads at 36K ft? :p

Slow and low, baby. That's the way to fly. I don't like a computer flying for me. Besides, our Super Decathlon's service ceiling isn't quite 36k feet!!! :D

However, our Citation and our King Air sure have their conveniences!!

I feel the pain of most thinking Kansas is boring. My wife and I have family in Hays, Victoria, Salina, and other parts. It's a drive I prefer to do at night for a reason.

stangmata 01-16-2011 04:22 PM

I like Kansas...it would just be nice if there was a bend in the road or two. Makes for boring motorcycle rides.

 The southern part has the 'mountains'

Flat? Not in Southeast Kansas, and especially not at Ks Rocks Park in Bourbon County.

Boring? No way. There's always something going on.

lateralus3 04-30-2011 07:38 AM

nothing goes on in smelldorado

XJ Knight 04-30-2011 08:03 AM

Storm Chasers Love Kansas :whistling:

lateralus3 04-30-2011 08:18 AM

yeah usually but have you noticed where all those tornadoes were?

XJ Knight 04-30-2011 08:24 AM

Yeah I know right, very sad.. No fun to storm chase around heavily populated areas and not to mention the inept ability to see storms well with alot of the tall tree's that are in that section of the country.. Hard to see and just not a safe place to chase typicaly.. Some of the grizzled chassing veterans will do it but it's just not ideal.. One thing to enjoy a tornado rolling through the plains.. Another thing to watch one go through a town and destroy lives.. ugh

Weather

I moved to Northeast Kansas in '86 from my home state of Washington. I LOVE Kansas. Great deer hunting, fishing, boating and I don't have to watch out for 6ft of snow on the level, earth quakes or an active volcano on my doorstep.

Kansas is definitely great for hunting. We've got pheasants by the millions, deer by the billions, groups of turkeys as far as the eye can see. Not to mention doves. There's always something to hunt in Kansas. :punk:

Yep, I applied for my I-D-10-T permit the other day. I hope I get the bonus tags too.

There is certainly no shortage of those. I would suggest setting up a stand at the local WalMart stereo section. You'll get your baglimit within minutes... :D

Does Kansas have a non-resident I-D-10-T season?
I was going to go to Wisconsin but that's not really hunting. You bait with green and gold an the I-D-10-Ts come running.

I usually use bratwurst and sauerkraut when hunting the elusive Wisconsin I-D-10-T, but I'm sure the green/gold combo would work as well.

Kansas does have a non-resident permit for hunting our I-D-10-Ts; we're trying to lower the population to acceptable levels. The population of I-D-10-Ts swells exponentially every March Madness, then quells itself usually by the Sweet Sixteen or the Final Four... (Can you tell I'm a KU HATER?)

Come on over, Nick. We'll all go I-D-10-T hunting together!! :thumb:
