Please help in my winch purchase!

OK I have probably started something here with this winch thread, but I need some real information about winches. I have a 2002 TJ and I need a winch, but before I sink a lot of cash into one I would like some real experiences people have had with theirs. With what I have read, which is about 50 hours of reading I still don't know which winch is better. I heard Viper is the best, Warn is the best and Gorilla is the best so on and so on. I have also heard that all those that I mentioned, about how bad each and everyone of them were. Man I'm more confused now more then ever. Please can someone here give me some real advise. I'll explain what I'm looking for in the following. I want a 8000 lb to 9000 lb winch in a good price range, lets say $250 - $750 range. I want reliability more than anything. I off road quit often and I'm more likely to get stuck in the mud then any were else. Thanks for the help!

I would always trust a product made in the USA rather than a Chinese product any day. Check out what Jerry says about winches and you will not go wrong. I see more Warn winches in Moab Utah than any other brands. If you really need quality stay with a manufacturer in the US. I deal with too many overseas manufacturers that just produce garbage. That is my personal opinion.

Will I guess its most likely going to be a warn winch. The w8000 is about 514.00 at amazon, do you know if its a good winch? That one seems to be in my budget and there are about four or five differant warn 8000 lb winches and I really don't now the differances between them.

M8000 Self-Recovery Winch by Warn and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware-RH3

This is from 4wd parts, there is a rebate also. This would be a good starter winch. You will need a winch plate to mount it to, then to the bumper unless you have a winch ready bumper already.

Before any purchase, get w/ Jerry Bransford (sp?) on here, he knows jeeps and winches. An opinion worth getting.

Thanks a lot I will get a hold of Jerry. Thanks for the rebate idea as well. Thats the one I was thinking of getting. I said W8000 but I meant M8000. I have a mount already on my Jeep I installed last week.

Ramsey is a good US made winch also. I put one on my CJ5 in 1985 then took it off and put it on my '03 Rubicon when I bought it in '08.

I'll take a look at them. Thanks ----update Wow and I thought warn winches were expensive. The best price I found was $880 bucks. Do you know of any a little cheaper?
