Can somebody help a brother out?
I have a 1999 jeep wrangler tj and I have a few symptoms that need a cure haha... I have some problems with my rpms dropping a lil and my car slittly rumbling or shaking for a second then it will stop. This only happens when I have stopped at a red light and just sitting for a moment, and seems to go away after i have been driving around for a while and the engine has warmed up. The only other problem i have is when going from drive to reverse and i dont let the car completely stop before switching it will stall, I have an automatic trany and would love if any body could shine some insight on my problem.

P.S. I have been looking for a new tinted window softtop replacement and I went to quadratec then i chose the best top replace a this my best deal?

check the idle control module. It might need to be replaced. It should be attached to the throttle body

Any codes being thrown?

My first guess would be TPS, and or idle control valve (if that's what its called on the jeep). but don't go replacing parts w/o testing them

and yes Bestop is a very good top option - you might look at other retailers as well (quadratec's prices can often be beat).

How long have you owned your Jeep and is there a particular gear or speed when these symptoms arise? Maybe 35-45mph?

I'd run like crap for you to if you kept calling me a car.

Thank you for helping me out here guys! First of all I have not yet nammed my "car" hahaha. Second I have only owned this car for about 4 months, and there are no problems arising at any speed other than when I am in drive and sitting still the rpms will drop for a split second. Lastly would u have any suggestions on the best price retailer if quadratecs prices can be beat?

oh and what are codes being thrown? :) im new

First I think that they were trying to relate to the fact that we never refer to our Jeeps as cars. They don't really fit into any category other than Jeep. As far as pricing goes, 4Wheel Parts offers to beat any price so check them out. The rpm issue is something that I haven't dealt with and I thought that you might be referring to another problem that I have encountered with my 06. I hope that this helps a little. Please be patient and I am sure that someone will address that rpm issue for you.

Oops I almost forgot pulling the code.If your CEL (check engine light) is on you csn pull the code to find out what the problem is. Even if the light is not currently on, it will show any stored codes that exist. You can take the jeep to any autozone and they will test it for free or you can pull the codes yourself. To do so, turn your key to the on position (not start), then off, then on, then off, then on and leave in that position. You will begin to see the codes in your odometer window. When all the codes have been displayed it will read "done". Go to this site to check the meaning of the codes.

A/C compressors take a bit of power and will drop your rpms when they kick on.

TheMurph 08-03-2010 02:24 PM

when i turn on the ac the whole jeep rumbles...but no the jeeps rpm will drop without the ac being on
