trails near omaha?

I'm stationed at Offutt AFB and recently bought my first jeep! I was wondering if there are any established trails or groups that are near the omaha area?

QBsack 09-16-2012 04:02 PM

If you take Q street west, WAY west, and cross the elkhorn river, there are some minimum maintenance roads and nice hills to climb. That's the best I've found.

I sure wish there was more

EnglishBulldog1 05-03-2013 01:24 AM

What about over in the Los Hills area?

Jeep_Geek 11-23-2013 06:21 PM

Here is a sample of some of the milder trails at Tuttle Creek ORV in Kansas. its about 3 hours from Omaha, well worth the drive!

There is not near offutt without driving for a bit. I have found some min maintained roacds ads near Nebraska city. Other than that Tuttle creek. I have not gotten to go yet. So no clue on how to get there but I here its a good time.

bonemarrow 11-27-2013 11:52 PM

I am newer to the omaha area too, I would like to find a way to get to the sand bars on the Elkhorn river. I am from Wichita Kansas, Tuttle Creek is awesome

Jeep_Geek 12-02-2013 12:56 PM

Unfortunately streams in Nebraska are not public property if you are touching the bottom. If you float it is waters of the state, sandbars and the bottom of rivers streams etc belong to the land owner. Many people get kicked off on the Platte every year for being out on sand bars. And recently.. Past couple of years kids have been shot at on the Elkhorn for stopping while tubing..

I also want to wheel on some sand bars..but if you don't know a landowner on the river you are Sol.

bonemarrow 12-02-2013 02:16 PM

That makes sense to me, I am not about to get shot at or get a trespassing ticket just to wheel a little. Looks like I will have to make some friends up here until I decide to head back to Tuttle creek

k.j.b. 12-11-2013 06:50 PM

Yeah I have wanted to just jump off the road n have a good time but I definaty ain't getting shot n I don't feel like dealing with cops.

bonemarrow 12-12-2013 02:05 AM

Do the jeeps in Omaha ever meet up anywhere?

k.j.b. 12-12-2013 07:54 AM

Not really sure there is two groups that I know of Just jeeps of Omaha and Nebraska off-road association or something like that.

bonemarrow 12-12-2013 12:02 PM

I have heard of just jeeps, but i have never been to their site. Perhaps we should organize a meet and greet somewhere

k.j.b. 12-12-2013 12:09 PM

Well I have no problems with meeting up some where but I'm not really free till after new years so it would have to b next moth some time

bonemarrow 12-12-2013 12:25 PM

I am busy until next year as well, so January might be a good idea

k.j.b. 12-12-2013 07:39 PM

Sweet I'll try to get ahold around that time

EnglishBulldog1 12-13-2013 02:43 PM

I am from West Central IA would you mind if I joined? I have nothing local. :(

bonemarrow 12-13-2013 02:52 PM

Yeah come along, bring along some iowa jeepers too

EnglishBulldog1 12-13-2013 03:26 PM

It sucks because most of the Jeepers in my area are parking lot crawlers. I drive a hour just to meet up with my Jeep club.

bonemarrow 12-13-2013 03:37 PM

Yeah I know it is a long drive for me to go to Tuttle creek with 4:56 gears in my jeep but I try to make it twice a year at least

k.j.b. 12-14-2013 03:13 PM

Did u happen to do the gears yourself or did u pay for it to be done?

bonemarrow 12-14-2013 03:19 PM

When I bought mine it had the gears in already in it. But I will be putting different gears in my mustang in march

k.j.b. 12-14-2013 04:42 PM

I'm going to b buying the DPG ultimate tj lift for mine n I know eventually I'm going to have to re-gear but I really don't want to pay for someone to do it because its a whole lot more than I can afford

bonemarrow 12-14-2013 04:49 PM

That is the way of my life too always more projects than there is money to fund them

k.j.b. 12-15-2013 09:26 AM

I think Thats is all of ours. Now i think I may have another project. My wife has a grand marquis that I have to change either an O2 sensor or the catalatic converter and now I have a pretty loud squeal coming from around my serpentine belt on the jeep I think its the bearing on my alternator but the problem with that is its intermintant so im definitely short of funds with Christmas here

bonemarrow 12-16-2013 12:20 PM

O2 sensors are not too bad to deal with and I have to remember the exhaust shop I went to, that guy did a great job on my car when it needed a header gasket replaced

k.j.b. 12-16-2013 04:07 PM

I've got a friend of mine Thats gonna help since i have no clue what im doing but I am willing to learn. I can't afford to pay someone do what I could learn to do

bonemarrow 12-16-2013 05:38 PM

Smart man! Well if you need help let me know I always like working on cars

peanut09 12-21-2013 07:11 PM

I am at Offutt as well I drive a 2013 10A 4 door, Anvil if you see me say hi! I see a lot of jeeps on base but have not met anyone yet. I would be game for a meet and greet.

k.j.b. 12-22-2013 10:47 AM

Hey Im from offutt. You have probably seen my 2001 sahara running around. I've got a smittybuilt SRC bumper on the front everything else is still stock. I'm going to be getting my lift and installing my tires finally when taxes come around. But hey if I see you I'll b sure to say hi.
