Four Door Unlimited Rubicon without Electronic Sway Bar Disconnect?

I am shopping for a Rubicon Unlimited, but I'm very, very skeptical about the reliability of the Electronic Sway Bar disconnect that Jeep has started including with the Rubicon.

I believe the first year of four door Rubicon Unlimited was 2008. Is that correct?
Now, what I haven't figured out is the first year of the Electronic Sway Bar Disconnect. I'm thinking 2011, but I'm not sure.

My goal is to stay in the right range of years to avoid that electronic sway bar disconnect, unless all of you fine folks can convince me that my paranoia about it is unfounded.

It certainly seems to me that good old fashioned manual quick disconnects have to much less trouble prone than this newly added piece of electronics that is so tightly integrated into the computers of the Jeep as to enforce speed limits, etc. I have also heard rumor of sway bar disconnect malfunctions leaving people stranded. Finally, I just don't want that expensive of a piece of electronics on my Jeep to possibly break.

Thoughts? (In addition to my question about which years are four door and without electronic disconnect).

Thanks!

Both the Unlimited Rubicon and electronic sway bar disconnect were introduced in 2007.

When it craps out just get the EVO like I did and many others. The JK and the JKU started in 2007. The 2011 is the black sheep of the JK's get any year but that one. Same Motor and trans as the 07-11 but different computer software. The 12 and up have the new motor and trans.

Remove the electronic sway bar and replace it with a non electronic sway bar and ad some QD links. Then sell the electronic sway bar parts which will more than likely cover all your costs.

Quadratec has all the parts do to the change over to a standard sway bar.

The OEM system is dam strong, and reliable. Not saying it won't ever fail, but after 5 yrs on my buddies 08, and many Trails, it's been flawless. On my 12, no issues to report. Two days ago I was on chinamans, and thinking how nice it is to just flip a couple switches and go. No crawling in the dirt, mud, snow ect. I do like Teraflex's dual setup where you just turn a knob, it's got the street and trail bars in one. Do they still make this??

Thanks everyone! So, how much of a "black sheep" is the 2011? What's wrong with the software on the 2011?

MrSig 03-10-2014 03:52 AM

It is the same as the software as the 2012 and up and that is for the 3.6 not the better 3.8 motor.
