Cat Back (better sound)

Want to give my Jeep a better exhaust sound (current stock system is very bland).Any suggestions for a good sound without breaking the bank?Do I need to get a cat back system or just a muffler?

I've got a Flowmaster 40 muffler with a turndown (no tailpipe) on my 4 banger. It sounds great, everyone thinks it's a v8. It only cost a little over $100 including install.

If all you want to do is change the sound and assuming your existing pipes aren't all rusted out, just a muffler will be what you need. There are tons of exhaust clips out on youtube, that'd be your best bet to find the sound you want. I have a flowmaster 50 on my 4.0L and like the sound. Most "turbo" mufflers are going to give you about the same sound you have now, maybe little louder. Glass packs are just loud for the most part and IMO don't sound that great. A lot of people like Banks, including myself, but you pay for the name. Magnaflow's sound nice IMO, a little on the loud side if you have the straight through style.

There's my cent and a half!

I've got the complete Bank's Stainless exhaust on my '91 4.0
Muffler, Header, and pipes. It's not too loud at highway speeds and it purrs like a kitten at idle. My only complaint is the chromed tailpipe tip rusted up after only a year.

My cat was rattling (all broke up inside). I had to replace everything from the manifold back due to everything rusted together. Got a Magnaflow cat and a Banks Power Monster stainless. Love the sound!! Put it on myself no problem (Didn't have to remove the skid plate)

I really like the way the Banks sounds but i want something that sounds almost like rolling thunder haha. Can I combine the Banks with something to accomplish this.

I recently replaced my entire exhaust system also but the cat back that I chose was called Pacesetter, I had never heard of it but I read some reviews that spoke highly of it. I bought it and think it sounds great. I also bought a Flowmaster delta 50 that I decided not to put on because I chose the entire cat back system instead. If any one is interested in buying the Flowmaster for a fair price PM me.

Hey if you check the "For Sale" section I have a Flowmaster 40 series that we put on my dad's YJ. He drove it for about 75-100 miles and took it off. My mother said it was too loud in the Jeep. I will ship it anywhere in the US for $80. It sounded good to me, and if I don't sell it I will eventually put it on my 94. Let me know and I can hook you up. It is just the pipe.:)
