Hello. I've been on this forum reading all of your informative posts for about six months. I think I finally found the jeep that I'm looking for. I went to look at it today and it is in good shape. It is the first wrangler that I see that does not have a bunch of surface rust on the underbody. The seller is willing to let it go for 7,500. The color is desert sand with black soft top and full metal doors. Here's the description of the ad:
Clean 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0 with new 31 inch tires. 66,500 miles, with an automatic transmission. Very good contidion inside and out. Incredibly cold AC, Soft top. Never saw off road, and was towed behind a motohome for most of its life. It is a joy to drive! $8K, come take a drive you will love it. Interior is immaculate, top is in good condition.
The couple of issues that I saw were that the tires rub and the differential is leaking a little bit. Do you guys think it is a decent deal?

I love that color. I wish they still offered it. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Something to keep in mind, and may not be a big deal. But if you plan to wheel the jeep, bigger tires etc... see what rear axle it has. Round plastic fill plug on the diff cover is the dana 35, square metal fill plug is dana 44, 44 is better, dana 35 is weaker. I think most 2000 auto's had the dana 35 that year. Other than that, sounds like a good deal.

No matter how good It Looks, take to a mechanic that You trust and have them check it out. It will be worth the fee he charges

Sounds like a good deal to me. A Jeep at that price with those miles would go quickly in my area. Keep in mind that any 10 year old Jeep is bound to have a few things that'll need to be addressed, so be prepared to put something in it.

It does sound like a good deal and as far as the small leak in the diff, mine has done that since I drove it out of the showroom. Take it out and test the 4WD. If everything feels, looks and sounds good mechanically, I think you have a winner.

Thanks for all the advice, I will be picking it this weekend. I will post some pics as soon as I can.

Don't wait, have mech check it out, and get it!! awsome price with those miles! just bought my 2000 tj in nov 2009, same price, more miles but in very good shape mechanically. and I love it. Nice color on your jeep though, always liked that color. unless it was ordered differently, it has a dana 30 front axle, and dana 35 rear axle. but it's a good year to have, improvements were made that year to fix the intake and exhaust manifolds from cracking. also that year the TJ got rid of the rotor cap, and went to computer controlled ignition, also making use for the computer mods for more towing power/better fuel milage, syncronizing speedometer with larger tires, along with a few other things. welcome to the forum, hope you get that jeep.
