Day Ride In Nightmare Gulch and Last Chance Canyon

Hey all,

This Friday I will be heading out with a few friends to run Nightmare Gulch and Last Chance Canyon hear in Socal. They look to be some moderately hard trails with a lot of nice scenery and some challenging sections. After the trip I will try to get some pictures and give a trail report for anyone interested. :wavey:

Have fun Geoff! Would like to go myself but I'm part of a pit crew for the Best in the Desert race this weekend. Post pic's.

Don't forget to save all of the waypoints and save the trails, we need to have a thread here where we can exchange saved trails and waypoints for our favorite trails, campsites and locations.

I havent gotten an offroad GPS yet. So we are going to wing it, and use a map made for the area and a few coordinates I have that I can put into my Tomtom. I know its not the best device for this, but it will help point me in the right direction if I get turned around. I will do some research and see if I can track my trip in my tomtom.

Each time you want to save a waypoint stop and push the button that says "where am I" and then get your note pad and write all of the numbers down and make sure that they are in order. On second thought, an off road gps would be easier!

Have fun.

Itll make a nice christmas gift ;) Are you near the area?

Not near enough, I'm in the OC, but have wanted to check out Last Chance as my brother in law goes there looking for gold on some claims he has access to, I just need to find the time, this Friday though I will be going up near Big Bear for 5 days with the motorhome and the jeep. With you being from Ridgecrest I don't need to tell you it may be hot so bring extra water! It is supposed to be around 72 in Big Bear but I will manage.

Ya we plan on headin out there around 7 or 8 to beat the heat for a little while. But ya, we went up to Big Bear for the meet and greet...the weather was nice. We rode the whole gold mountain trail up there and took a look at john bull which ended up being a little too advanced for the majority of our rigs.

Hey Cons. You can also access Burro Schmits tunnel from the Redrock Randsburg road. If you look on Google earth you can see all the markings and roads. Have fun out there and yes indeed it will be on the warm side. Let us know how you like the off roading. There are also lot's of trails and dirt roads across the highway 14 into the Dove Springs area. You can work your way all the way to Lake Isabella with some time.

Ya depending on how long we are out, we might go by Burro Schmits tunnel. I got a nice map from the Jawbone Visitors center that shows main trails out there including some campgrounds, popular trails and some of the tourist attractions. The trip through dove springs to Isabella would be a fun drive, and would make a good weekend/camping trip.
