Tires & Wheels Help Needed & Tips
Thought Iíd never buy an evolution Harley, but I did and love it. Now I bought a 2000 Wrangler 5 speed 4.0 and love it. But I find myself lost again. Looking for best performance for on & off road, No major rock climbing
Now I need some Wrangler wisdom and this seems to be the place with no BS.
What Iíd like to do first is getting rid of these tires & wheels (31x10.5x15 radial xrt wild country). No lift, told its all stock
Iím looking for something a little wider, maybe taller, something more aggressive looking without loosing much performance. Iím looking to be able to drive anywhere and go of road when I want & look good getting there
I run M/T 35X12.50R15LT on my CJ & Willeyís now but there used for short rides and off road
If I was to lift this jeep, what kit should I use to keep a nice road ride? I would think no higher then 3.5Ē if that and move up to 33Ēís. Looking for pro. & cons.
And whatís the thought on intake? Would like to get the best performance I can out of this 4.0, any ideas or tricks would be appreciated. Performance ,aggressive & cool looking.
There are also a bunch of threads regarding lifts and tire size. The inexpensive way is a budget boost to raise your Jeep 2 inches. This should fit 32 inch tires okay. If you have stock rims your back spacing will be too much and the tires will rub at full turn. You can shim the steering stops with a couple of washers to stop that and there are also threads regarding that proceedure. Stock wheels have 5 to 5.5 inches of back spacing which keeps them way under the fenders. After market wheels have 3.75 to 4 inches that will push them out a bit for better clearance when turning. If you want to go higher for bigger tires then you can add a small body lift as well and get your Jeep up 3 to 3.25 inches for 33 inche tires. From the sound of your adventures this would be okay for you. 33 inch tires is the max for this set up.
I too had a shovel head years ago and snubbed the evo's. Glad I made the change when I did. Road King for me for many years. :punk:
^^^^ gotta go with what 530 has said here! Good stuff! :) If you go wider, you gotta get spacers or new wheels, since the rears will rub the spring perches...
Thanks I since have been reading the threads, not much of a PC guy, canít find the trigger, throttle or pedal

Thanks for your advice! I thought I was getting a sales pitch about the intake, but thatís why I asked hear, but Iím new to the wrangler & definitely donít know the new engines and I was hearing how great changing the intake helped. (Thanks for the save) On my L heads engines I never really cared.
Also the info the 2 of you added about tire size helped a lot, Iím by no mean rich but want this one done right & willing to do what it takes so the info you gave sound nice, will the budget boost & small body lift mess with my on road ride? Also same ? About wider or shimming my wheels out? . I have since thought I should go to 33ís and if I lifted 3.5 is defiantly all I would want; I ím just being anal about on road ride because I plan o a lot of trip out west this year with it instead of my bike.
