Thinking Of Installing Cell Phone Jammer In Car

I've been thinking of installing a cell phone jammer in the car to jam the phone of people who annoy me in the car.

You ever have that person who asks you for a ride - some place out of your way - and you can't even enjoy your own jeep and music or scenery because they decide instead of talking to you or just enjoying the ride - they get on their cell phone annoying you - about a conversation that is meaningless.

I thought i'd hook it up to a rocker switch and the 12v - they have ones that would only affect the car - you could get one that would also affect cars around you but you might cut someone off on an important call - hey! you aren't supposed to be driving and on the cell phone anyway!

What do you guys think

It would probably be illegal in many, if not all, states. Think about the person beside you loosing reception, then taking their eyes off the road to try and diagnose the connection problem. Then trying to find the contact in their phone again to redial. I'd rather just tell my passenger, "Hay, mind hanging that thing up? It's annoying as hell, thanks." My car, my rules.

i love the idea in theory, but it is most likely illegal and dangerous like Ray said.

I thought about it , getting one to block out peoples phones that are around me so they dont ram into me lol. but I figured theyd be tinkering with their phones and be more likely to ram me, any ways Im pretty sure its illegal here

.....Pull over and tell them to hang up or get out! We all have choices to make.:D:D:D

It's easy to do. Really easy. And it's easy to get passed a blocked signal too.
And if a friend were doing that I'd kick em out of my Jeep. I've done it before too.

Just grab their phoen and throw it out the ...hm I cant say window, just throw it out into the air =

My friend has done this, but says its a waste.

Air horn would be safer...at least then they won't be looking at their phone trying to diagnose their problem. They'll know it's from the loud ass Jeep that's honking behind them:)

Okay, so im not gonna do it, but if you were to do it, if you have to get a jammer with the right amount of active radius to be effective. A short range one wont work

We use to do this with Radio stations, simple logic inverters, some coiled wire, and a capacitor, and a battery was all that was needed. We could tune it in to the specific frequency of the station and knock out the cars next to us.

Cell phone wouldn't be much different but the high frequency, gigahertz range, that would take a few special components to oscillate that high.

Take the top and the doors off... haven't had anyone use a phone in my jeep for more than about 10 seconds this summer :) also doubles as a decent excuse when your boss asks why you didn't answer your cell phone. (Anyone else's boss think that "I don't answer the phone when I'm driving" isn't a valid response?)

I have them in all 3 cars. Not the Jeep the teens don't drive the Jeep. I drive over 100,000 a year and the biggest problem I see is cell phones. You can't fix stupid you can just wait for it to kill itself annd hope it don't take you with it.

PTaylor 09-01-2010 12:02 PM

you guys are right, taking the top down, that's the best damn cell phone jammer in existence!:punk:

Urokira 09-01-2010 02:21 PM

i love the idea, and would love to have a portable one to carry on the bus with me! but unfortunately as most have already added.... illegal.

Ibuildembig 09-01-2010 02:29 PM

Best jammer would be a jeep, v8, side pipes, and no top :)

It would not only jam the person with you, but everyone around you too hehe

jeepthreat 09-05-2010 07:31 AM

Okay - what about blue lasers mounted on the front.
Is that a good idea or just wrong?

Then you could start a fire in front of you with the flip of a switch.

ericforman 09-07-2010 06:29 AM

OK...this topic got me off my duff to make my first post.

Don't do it.

1) Any kind of radio jammer is illegal to posses in the United States under federal law.

2) (I have first hand experience on this) - they not only jam cell phones, but they cause police/fire/ems radios to drop out of sync. and completely lose their signal (because the frequencies are adjacent). It's pretty darn scary to be on the scene of a large fire or rescue incident and everyone's radio suddenly goes dead.

Just don't give rides to rude people.

"blue lasers"?
I don't think your going to get blue lasers cheap, and besides, anything blue is strictly illegal. as a matter of fact, most colors are illegal depending on state and most cops have no idea what colors are and aren't without looking it up.

Jammers are better used in public places when you have some ill mannered annoying person who thinks everyone wants to listen to their call. They are expensive though and I can think of better ways to put money into my Jeep. I used to use one occasionally in my work and always wanted one of my own. Always fun to watch some jerk trying to figure out why his/her phone won't work.
