Welding the rear end to lock it

I am wanting to lock the rear and don't have alot of cash. What are the pro's and cons of welding the rearend to lock it on a daily driver. Its a 98 tj with a 4 banger se model

don't do it. Period. On a DD it will just cause problems, especially if you have a dana 35.

I agree the se models all pretty much have the turdyfive. the spider gears will break, or the shafts takes your pick. on a daily driver welding up the rear end is never recomended. or your welds will break

I'm thinking that would be a trail rig only thing.

BAD!

You can often find a Lock-right or one of the many clones out there for $100 on ebay or from local clubs.

Thanks guys that was what i was thinking but it helps to ask someone who knows.

egh. To each their own. I daily drove a miller melody for over a year. Other than excessive tire wear there were no ill effects on daily driving but I was wider and longer than stock. I would do it again on a rig that didn't see driving every day. It was fun watching people at the gas station think something was wrong. The off road traction was absolutely awesome and I loved it!

I do agree you should pitch the D35 before welding up the spiders.

Why would people think something is wrong

The constant squealing, scuffing, and dragging of tires. Not to mention the binding noises of the driveline.

The most common questions or concern I had was people thinking there was something wrong with my brakes.

I survived that whole year with an AX5 tranny. So there can't be that much drive line strain over anything you'd get while wheeling!
