New Bumpers, Tires, and Tail Lights! :)
:punk: I had a busy weekend
If anyone has any questions about installation for the flush-mount tail lights, let me know and I can help you through. Definitely also check out Stu's Off-Road.
First I installed a set of stock bumpers from a 2006 Rubicon. Picked them up practically brand new for $100 for both front and rear. The Jeep came with these hideous chrome tube bumpers so to me it was a definite upgrade. Milk jugs are all done. The biggest problem I ran into was getting my rear bumper/hitch bolts off. Four of them wouldn't budge so I had to actually heat them up with a propane torch.
Then I got a set of 31" BFG A/T tires installed. Picked them up for $180 off of Craigslist, and when I got there they seemed like an excellent deal with a ton of meat left. Got home and realized that one tire was worn unevenly and another had a nail stuck in it, but it was still holding air. Finally got those bad boys installed at Wal-Mart for $50 even, including dismount, mounting, balance, valve stems, tire disposal and tire plug. Before you warn me about Wal-Mart being awful, the guy there actually took off a locking lug nut for me for free last week and really should have charged me. The one I go to definitely gets a thumbs up! As far at the tires go, I couldn't be more pleased. No vibrations whatsoever. Plus, even without having my lift on yet, it gives the Wrangler THAT much more of an aggressive look. Honestly, the 31" tire is one of the best first modifications you could do without getting into lifts and gearing. I don't notice much of a slowdown with 3.73 gearing so I'm pretty ecstatic. Plus, I really only expect to have these tires until next May when I get my Ford 8.8 complete and purchase some 35s :wavey:
Then I finally bit the bullet and did the one mod I've been dying for. Flush-mount LED tail lights. I picked up the set at Wal-Mart for $30, not thrilled with the style but I can always swap these out later with other ones. Standard 4" LED lamp. Took the plunge this morning and drilled two 4.5" holes with a hole saw and a corded drill. This was the most nerve racking mod yet, and it still makes me sick thinking that I cut into the quarter panels haha. But they came out excellent! I still need to paint the edges but these guys look fantastic. The wiring wasn't too difficult. Plus I picked up this ugly LED bar for the license plate which I'll swap out as soon as my set of Lite Bolts come in. Measuring-wise, I just cut out cardboard beforehand, did the placement and then reversed it for the other side. Came out a lot more even then I expected, might be off by less then 1/8th of an inch. I just now have to find out how to flattie mount my license plate and we're in business!
Sorry for the awful shots, my cell phone sucks.
Ford 8.8 Axle (already have the axle with LSD)
35" BFGoodrich M/T
4" Zone Lift

Looks good dude I would sh$& in my pants drilling a whole in mine haha they look good though my look into them
Definitely, I'm going to try and do that tomorrow while I'm at work. I did basically s*** bricks for three days before doing it. I finally got the courage this morning and it was definitely more difficult then I expected with the hole saw (expect a lot of grinding and catching), but the final results were absolutely worth it. I would never do the project for anyone else, but I'd be happy to loan the hole saw.
I started with the LED's ended up with no fenders and big holes in my grill....it gets easier!!
It's pathetic that you're good with those in California and I can't get away with them in the Pine Barrens in NJ.
You know it's funny that they are so gay here with smog things but I have been running for a year with no plate lite and no rear sidemarkers and these fenders for a few months and no one seems to care!! But yet where you guys live it's the total opposite. I have heard someone say that where they live in Cali someone cares enough for them to worry about getting a set. Perks to living in the sticks I suppose. That and I am 20 miles from the Boone road entrance to JV!! Someday I'll be big enough to play there...
Yea, for us emissions is simple. If your CEL is off you're good to go. In fact, if the CEL is on then you just go to a private garage to pass inspection. But for lifted vehicles, NJ might have the gayest rules and tests.
