Snorkels

Ibeen considering getting a snorkel for my 99 but not sure About them any suggestions . Does all snorkels have go threw ur hood. It kind of a crazy idea I just came up with cause my street is flooded and water was high enough to ooze ip in my drain holes and I was sputtering a Lil to but I probaly need a tune up more then anything to fix the sputtering

If you need a snorkel, the water level will be above your headlights. Snorkels are of no use unless you waterproof everything else.

Yes, all snorkels will somehow have to exit the engine bay (usually through the fender) and sit on the side of the windshield. Snorkels protect you when you decide to fjord through some lakes. They most likely won't protect your Jeep when it's sitting in a flooded area. As well, you have to be careful that the snorkel has someway to protect itself from rain and the elements.

Also some snorkels aren't even "water proof" They only raise the airbox up. This allows it to suck in less dirty air.

Cool I wonder if mesh screen in the inlet would help keeping bugs and junk out of the system

pakman55 08-28-2010 11:47 PM

This one has a screen.

What kind is it

pakman55 08-29-2010 01:34 AM

Not sure to be honest. I'm pretty sure its an ARB Safari.

They make them for a 2.5 I looked around online they all say 4.0. One thing I read says for a 2.5 u have to make ur own airbox. I'm not into do that stuff I want to buy it and have my mechanic put it in and be done with it . I don't want to Jerry rig something it may work perfect but it just don't look good

What does everything else mean? Diff's/transfer case etc?

A list of things to do would be most appreciated. I want to set up my Wrangler for deep water adventures :)

I was wanting to get a snorkel and a new air box and re route it through the drivers side where the window wash is (Move the window wash and run the snorkel through the hood there.
