First Time Doorless

hit up a bike trail with my girl this weekend and decided to go topless and doorless since the weather was finally somewhat ok (93degrees). MAN IT IS AWESOME I WISH I COULD BE DOORLESS AND TOPLESS ALL YEAR! i mean you read about it on here and you know its going to be saweet but man i didnt realize it was going to feel that bad ass. we had a great time i love my jeep never will i let her go can i get an amen! lol :punk:

on a side note, i knew i had to take out the door defeat fuse but totally forgot, thank god a cloud blocked the sun and i was able to notice the light on within 4 hours

mrcarcrazy 08-30-2010 10:15 AM

Doorless is nice.

on the light, it will go out after x number of mins on its own (while ignition is off at least).

really? man thats awesome, im still just going to leave the fuse out, is there really a need for it besides just for the light?

IndyJeepMan 08-30-2010 10:26 AM

Good stuff! Now fold the windshield down and grab some sunglasses :)

On an '01 TJ? didn't know that..Most people put a switch in...

cork1958 08-30-2010 10:29 AM

I just went doorless for the first time the last few days in my Silver, 60th Anniversay, '01 TJ, also. It IS a sweet feeling, isn't it?

On a side not though. I wear prescription glasses and it was always feeling like they were going to blow off my face. Doors are back on now. Had a door hinge project going with it that has a real long thread here.

Had my fuse pulled out also. Everything else still seemed to work. My manual says the light goes out in 20 minutes. Not letting it do that.

mrcarcrazy 08-30-2010 10:34 AM

Yup, on my 01 TJ it stays on about 5 mins (rough estimate). then turns off. (well apparently its 20 mins, I'm not good w/ time)

I now have a switch installed. As removing the fuse eliminates the door open w/ key in ignition reminder and the headlight reminder.(the headlight reminder being d/c'd allowed me to kill my battery 3x now....somewhat embarassed about that one) I really need to relocate the switch, as the ol lady's foot has a way of finding it.

lol dude i tried that but the gf wasnt having it, said she could barely keep her cap on. im sure ill convince her later. question, when riding with your windshield down, does anything hit your face? (bugs, small debris)

yea man for some reason and with my luck i dont think it will go off so the fuse stays out lol

I have been doorless and topless aka "naked" for 2 weeks now...it has been amazing, and the forecast is going to allow me for 3!!!!

Go doorless for as long as you can!!!

I just put the doors back on after 9 days. I managed to loose the fuse in the process. I planned on making a switch anyway.

Amped 09-22-2010 07:20 PM

stuck on doors?

Doorless would be nice, I've spent most of this summer trying to extract my stuck on doors... rusted on so bad, its sad. However i did have a good 2 week topless stretch I managed. My dreams when I buy a house, get a garage, have an alternate vehicle and never have to put the top back on. *sigh* someday.

Anyone have the rusted-on-door problem? I've beat them, and PB blasted them, and yanked and pulled and beat them some more, but to no end. I've considered just replacing all my hinges anyway, got a deal for all door hinges for 130$, and then once the doors off, realllly put a beating on it....

Branden 09-22-2010 07:24 PM

it was the best experiance ever when i finally decided to take the doors off! i did a hill climb by my house and it made it sooo much more cool. kinda weird not having mirrors though haha

read somewhere about using long stem harley mirrors in the hinge. guy at work is bringing in his old set to see how it works-his daughter just got a jeep also-but doubt she'll be going door less.

InvertChaos 09-22-2010 08:27 PM

I went doorless for the first time awhile back myself! I have those long stemmed mirrors that ^ is talking about. They just fit into the top hinge, then stay put with a single nut. Works great and keeps the cops at bay :P

I put WD40 on mine and they slid off so maybe if you put some on there and let it sit over night it may help.

GoldTJ 09-22-2010 09:24 PM

Doorless rules-I have rolled that way most of the summer, weather permitting!Been blasted bt surprise rain a few times,also-it happens!

birdhunter 09-22-2010 10:04 PM

Ha
Another cherry popped

use a small 2x4 and the jack
use close to the hinges go slow and
dont bend the hinge
also use pb blaster let it sit over night

Try parking flat. sitting inside the door (not on the seat) on the entry rail and use your calves to push up on the door , you should shut the door as much as you can while trying, I had the same prob then they popped right off

Trying to lift the doors farther from the hinge doesnt work, lift as close to the hinge that you can:blunt:

I wish I could take the doors off my jeep, but my father won't allow it :( It sucks because it feels like the jeep just runs a whole lot smoother with 'em off!

Haha, my mom told me that she didn't want me to take the doors off either. She asked what I would do if someone side-swiped me with the doors off? I told her that i would kick the other car! :D

I've been able to rock the "naked" ride for almost 3 yrs. I also live in So Cal so i can get away with it....with the help of a garage too!

You should just show them the sticker that clearly states the doors are not for protection in accidents and are solely for protection from the elements (rain, snow, etc).

I haven't had my doors on in over a month...if it rains, I just put the top up.

vekrause 09-23-2010 06:51 AM

Is there any kind of "quick release" for the doors, as in not needing to break out the wrenches? I know its only a couple of bolts, but are there any type of locking pins or such that anyone has seen?

Pool table, air hockey table in my garage...no room for the jeep..lol

I've got to leave it outside..so my top and doors would go almost every nite..Especially down here in FL, the humidity. I wake up in the morning most days and dew has covered everything..even w/o rain, my seats would be soaked by the morning dew...:banghead:

I had this problem bad. Apparently the PO never removed the doors (the guy must be lame). For over a week everynight I hit the hinges with lube and the weather was nice.... ALL WEEK. Me and my brother tried together to remove the doors but they never would budge. Eventually I just snapped... un-bolted the doors from the hinges, then took a hammer to the bottoms of the hinges to wack them off (took about 5-10 mins). Afterwards I took a metal file to them - never a problem since.

Yes and no... remove the nuts and don't put them back on. Or do as I did...remove the nuts and cut off the exposed threads on the hinge so it looks nicer and isn't as obvious that the hinges are "neutered". Your doors will be fine without the nuts on them...the only difference is now a thief doesn't need to carry a 1/2" wrench with him to get your door off.

I have been rolling naked for almost 2 weeks. I love it.
