Serpentine belt issue for 1990 YJ Sahara
Jeep Sahara with 4.2L engine. Just spent $1200 fixing everything possible to get running smoothly. Runs fantastic, until the serpentine belt came loose while driving and fell off (still in one piece and no damage). I viewed all the diagrams to route the belt through the approriate components. I have a the following pully's attached for the P/S, WP, C/S, ALT...........however, I can't seem to locate the IDLER pully's. I have few questions:
1) can I run the belt w/o the IDLER pully's?
2) could IDLER have broken off..........the belt seems very loose w/o the IDLER?
3) it seems like an easy fix, just can't seem to locate the IDLER?
4) or should I just take back to the shop and spend more dollars?
Did a lot of research on my own and think I've solved the problems that I'm having. Looks like there is no Idler and the adjustments are made from the Alternator (some manuals say the P/S adjust). Anyway, I'm a newbe to this site and I'm very please with the amount of info I have learned. By reading all the different threads, I was able to piece together a solution to my problems.
