Removing a Body Lift
afternoon all! my 92 has a 3" body lift on it that i am toying with the idea of removing. i believe even if i did, the 31's i have on it currently would still fit. how much of a pain in the ass would it be to remove this? :banghead:
i like the look, but i don't think the PO put it on right as the drive shaft angle is way steep and i think it squeals in 2nd and 3rd. just curious. thanks!

Hmmm, body lift doesn't normally have anything to do with driveshaft angle. Removing it isn't a big deal as long as its not rusty. All you have to do is buzz the body bolts out from underneath, jack one side up at a time with a wooden block, remove the lift blocks, set the body back down, and reinstall shorter or factory body bolts. You also might have to raise the radiator back up to the stock location if it was lowered

thanks big. i'll look at the angle again and compare to a non lifted jeep. maybe i'm just dreaming it up. i did have someone tell me that the po forgot to put the spacers in for the transfer case mounting and it could cause a problem with it staying in 4 wheel lo. i don't know if that is correct or not, but it did get me thinking a bit about the lift and potential problems.

If it's on stock suspension i'm not sure 31's will fit. I'm barely fittings 29s on mine comfortably. 30's would rub no doubt with mine.

It shouldn't need a t-case spacer for a body I am kinda curious. Does it have blocks under the body mounts? All a body lift does is essentially raise the body off the frame. Everything in the drivetrain is untouched.

i'll take a few snapshots and post them up here for you to see. there is a good chance i'm explaining this ALL wrong, but i don't think so. i'll try to remember to do tonight or tomorrow and get them up. thanks!

ok, after long wait, here are some pics. the first one is of one of the lifts. my unofficial cell phone measurement says 3" total.

ok, don't know how this is going to look or if i formatted these right, but below should be the drive shaft angle pic. however, upon further review, i don't think it is going to give you much. so i'll jack it up tonight, take a better picture of it and post it up. what i do know is that when running thru the gears there is a squeak while in 2nd and 3rd that sounds like heavy metal on heavy metal. like maybe the transer case is hitting the skid plate. probably not plausible, but that's just what it sounds like. again, only happens in 2nd and 3rd, so really not sure.

Thats about what my drive shaft looks like I do have a suspension lift of unknown origin put on by some previous owner with a transfer drop and no noise in 2nd or 3rd.

no noise in 2nd or 3rd. thats good to know. i'm going to have to crawl under it and check out the conections. perhaps something has just come loose? yeah, i've got the unknown origin thing going on as well. i was told that mine doesn't have a transfer drop and that is what i needed.......ugh........confusing.
