92 Renegade build

So my son just totalled his 90 VW Cabriolet a couple of weeks ago. Low on funds, a neighbor had this 92 Renagade sitting in their driveway for about a year. It was her brother's that she got when he past away. I got it dirt cheap with the promise that I would get it back on the road.

It runs but I had to replace the tranny. No third gear. My guess is a bad syncro and I didn't feel comfortable ripping it apart. Took four days to get the old tranny out. Take a look at these picture to find out why.

Yes, it sat without the rear window installed for two summer and a full winter. Oh, and it had full carpet which didn't help.

Picked up a used tranny but it's a 94-95 so the input shaft is bigger. Advanced Adapters has the right pilot bearing and I bought a clutch rebuild kit with a new slave unit. Someday I will upgrade to an exteral slave but right now I need to get this Jeep on the road.

After I install the tranny, I'm doing a complete tune-up and install new floors.

Then....

I think the spray foam as a filler is a nice touch.

I'm going to photo the process and I will post as we go.

HOLY $H!+....I have a 91 Renegade I'm working on and all I had was a small 3" hole on the drivers side to contend with. That is unbelievable. Looking forward to following your progress.

I think the Renegades can be done up to look pretty nice.:punk: Keep the faith. Good Luck!

Check the badging on the back and make sure that it doesn't say:

Jeep Renegade "Fred Flintstone Edition".

Good luck with that build... you're braver than I am.

Wow that's a mess. Instead of trying to repair all of that you might consider hunting around for a used body tub in good condition. Then just transfer everything that is not rusted out over to the new tub. Keep in mind though, a restoration project like this can get expensive fast.
Good luck with it.
