weird front end noise in 4wd high

Hey guys,

I am noticing a weird noise in my front end when im in 4wd high. it doesnt make the noise in 2wd. and i dont think it makes it in 4 lo. I notice it when i hit the gas. It isnt real loud, but just enough to notice. any ideas what it could be?

?

Anyone have a clue on this??

Ibuildembig 09-02-2010 02:14 PM

What kinda noise? Pop? Boom? Screech? Eeek? Squeak? Scratch?

teddywetts 09-02-2010 02:23 PM

Kind of a rubbing sound... like i thought it was something in my tires at first, but it didnt do it in 2wd. Im thinking it might be in my diff?? Hard to say... it drove fine despite the noise..

I also have a 4wd hi question... mine also makes a noise... like a rolling rattling noise while I'm driving... sorry to hijack your thread! but this has me worried now that I think about it... I don't know if it does it in 4Lo

Most likely the ujoints in the front drive shaft.

is that an easy fix?

teddywetts 09-02-2010 02:46 PM

I had someone say it could be the u joints. I just dont understand how it only does that in 4 high..

Ibuildembig 09-02-2010 02:53 PM

Yeah that's what I was thinking...problem is, nothing changes other than the rotation speed of the shaft when going from high to low

U Joints are cheap, like 20 bucks a piece and there are 4 of them. Not sure on the labor as I changed them myself.
