What rubs when using 33" tires on a JK?

After reading many posts, it seems that 33" tires will rub on a stock JK with no lift. My question is what rubs? The wheel openings look to big for the stock 32" tires already. Is it because it is only a problem when off road? Looking at the Jeep the only thing that looks close is the width. If this is a width problem, how does lifting it 2" allow 33" tires to clear? It seems like a
33" tire would still rub on the rear bars with the stock wheels because the tires are wider. Would a 33" tire that was the stock width(255) clear, or would would the additional height still hit something off road? Or do you need wheels with a different offset anytime you go to a taller tire even when using a 2" lift? Any help would be appreciated. The vehicle is a 2010 JK Unlimited. Thanks

It aint just the height or width of the tire that is of concern. It's the 6" backspacing of the factory wheels. With 4.5" backspaced wheels (or spacers) and a little flare trimming (or aftermarket flairs) you can fit a 33 with little to no lift and it wont rub much.

edit: where will it rub? I've seen several inner sidewalls slashed on sway bars and on my 08 with factory wheels, 285/75's & a 2.5" BB the inner fronts would rub on the upper spring perches..
