Timing Change Advice

I have 100k miles on the TJ now and think it is time to replace the timing chain. I am planning to use the Haynes manual for guidance but wanted to see if anyone has any additional advice or a copy of a different guide (like a shop manual) I can use to help me. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Shouldn't need to replace the timing chain at a 100k they last alot longer than belts.

You are thinking of timing belts that because they are made from rubber, need to be changed on a regular basis. The 4.0L however uses an internal steel timing chain that should not need replacing until WAY down the road like during a major engine overhaul at 250-300K miles. No worries, your steel timing chain is not even close to needing to be replaced. :)

Thanks - I had no idea. Neither my owner's manual nor the haynes guide indicated the interval.

IMO the Haynes manual is worthless. A while back a guy on this forum (can't remember his name) had a link for free PDF style FSM's. You will need to use the search function at the top and type in *FSM*. Hope that helps.
