Not nearly that long, but did a 1500 mile trip to the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, and Sedona.. we did it with just a bikini top (on the Jeep not me)!

I drove from Fort Irwin, CA in the high Mojave Desert to Fort Riley in NE Kansas while towing a trailer and motorcycle. I then drove back out to Cali again after the Army to Redondo Beach, CA with a loaded motorcycle trailer, then BACK to Kansas with a loaded motorcycle trailer. My Jeep is no longer a daily driver, so she gets some good garage time now. :D

Went from New Orleans to Big bend in Texas up to Roswell,Ruidoso New Mexico Aross north Texas to Dallas Then to Bigfootville to Jefferson Texas to the International Bigfoot sighting headquarters(which was a closet in an old building) back down to New Orleans. With a 4cyl 6 speed doing the 80 mph speed limit across Texas no problem.

Last year I drove from our home in middle TN, to Texas, up through California into southern Oregon and then back again.

By the time we were finished with all of the side trips and running around it was over 5,00 miles. I had the soft top on, and ran the life out of a good set of Mud Countrys. Should have had them balanced at the halfway point.

The hardest part about the whole thing was turning the Jeep towards home.
I love road trips, I'd be a Gypsy if if I could.

I just got back from taking a trip to Spring Hill, FL. Then drove up the gulf coast to Mobile, AL. then back home, about 3000 mi. altogether. JK ran great, no problems at all.

I drove a few hundred miles here in the heart of California one day. Top down, no jeep bra and no 45, sleeveless shirt and it was over 100 :firedevil: needless to say I had to have a few drinks when I got home to help relieve the sun burn.

Ahh, the Alien / Bigfoot loop. Any luck ? I see UFO's all the time out here in the Mojave from my front porch.

In 1980 I took my '75 CJ5 from Orange County down to Cabo and back (Tijuana to Cabo is 1,045 miles , one way), with no top. With a lot of side trips. I remember taking a dirt road into a small fly-in fishing village on the Sea of Cortez and the gringo's jaws dropped. "you guys DROVE here ???" I think they were jealous. . No top was a big mistake. When you're 20 you think you're invincible.

^ you were lied to. I'm not sure about the exhaust, but you can't improve on the stock intake, and chips don't do a thing but empty your wallet.

Longest trip in my Jeep--400 miles one way. Bout 500 on the way back but I split it over 2 days to stop and visit my brother for a night. No cruise control.

Longest trip ever mileage-wise--drove from Ohio to Kansas and back over like 4 days when I was 18. I think it was a 1500 mile trip total.

Longest trip time-wise--Ohio to Illinois for Christmas 2 years ago and an ice storm hit while I was about halfway there. Went from doing 65 on the interstate to 15-20 the rest of the way in a 2wd pickup truck. No salt on the roads due to budget cuts (occasionally we'd hit areas that had trucks dumping sand), I got on the cb and joined up in a convoy of truckers and cruised the rest of the way with them at a slow but steady and safe pace. Cars and trucks were all over the ditches and for awhile the interstate ahead of us was completely gridlocked and had to be shut down due to pile ups on the ramps. Made a 4 1/2 - 5 hr trip a 10 hr trip.

No luck pokey. All these websites you see on things like bigfoot and ufos are like I found out. Just someone with a computer in a closet with nothing better to do. No big rooms with maps and data spewing out on sightings ect. Did see some stuffed bigfoot dolls and plastic aliens though. And also found out how big Texas really is. Also Pecos Texas is just a hole in the wall. Between Pecos and Carlsbad caverns they still have roadside signs in the arid landscape That advertise air conditioned cabins, air conditioned lunch counter. Looks like they are from the 50's.

Jacksonville to Key West and back.
I'd like to drive it to the Smoky Mountains

Got_Mud? 09-13-2010 01:42 PM

I work outta the house 2-3 days a week, usually. My average run is 400 miles. My long is just shy of 600. An *easy* day is 300. Yeah, I change my oil every 3 weeks. Good thing it's easy.
Last year I drove 54k miles.... on track to do 60k this year. Since the end of March, they have all been in the Jeep. With no cruise control, in all weather and all driving conditions. Wouldn't trade it for anything, though! (and it keeps the mileage off my other car!)

ParaCAD 09-13-2010 01:47 PM

'bout 500 miles to key west back in June where the wife and i got hitched :)

There is a LOT of heat down there..lol even the water (ocean and pool) was about 90 degrees...lol

osu50sprinter 09-13-2010 01:56 PM

I moved from Columbus OH to Vail CO....had all my S&#t packed in it...the whole front seat, back seat to 12in below the roof and a hitch hauler on the back loaded with stuff...was about 1400 miles...was an awesome trip!!! thats the longest so far but wanna do more!

Geoff@Bestop 09-13-2010 03:03 PM

It's a variable scale.

I moved from Eugene, Oregon to Seattle in a 1960 CJ5. That's only 300-ish miles, and I've done lots of longer trips in Wranglers since then.

But a fully loaded CJ5 with duffle bags strapped to the roof, and old tired springs going its maximum 50 mph up I-5 - those 300 miles should be at least tripled.

Serge A. Storms 09-13-2010 10:16 PM

I did the smokies. Unbelievable sites and winding roads went up across cumberland gap in winter. 4 wheel drive came in handy.

Going to work on a Monday morning.

Strangely, going home on Friday is the shortest.

Cincnnati OH to Key West Florida this past summer. Kept the top down the entire trip there. It was amazing. Nothing like driving across the seven mile bridge in a Jeep looking at the beautiful turqoise water, I wish I was there now. But the trip home seemed even longer.
