You can tie down directly to your racks, but having a properly made kayak carrier holds the kayak very securley. Minimizes the risk of it falling off or scratching up your car. You also have the option to transport up to 4 kayaks on your roof. You will find that most kayak racks will fit a multitude of existing roof racks.

One thing I do recommend is securing with the tie-downs, don't use an elasticated tie-down. And secure with extra non-elasticated tie-downs at the front and rear of your Ocean kayak. This stops the wind getting hold of it and dislodging it.

What racks do you have on your Wrangler 210?

I'm going with the Yakima system. It's reasonably priced and I've been using one for years. Bikes, surfboards, kayaks, etc. But you WILL have to drill into your hard top. Some people aren't willing to do that.

Yes I heard that too... I guess if you get a good rack of quality, then your ok. Does the yakima rack fit other kayak carriers or just it's own brand?

I just bought and installed the Congo Kargo cage. Good price and holds 300 lbs.
This is my second and I'm happy with both.
