2006 Wrangler SE has strange fuel/ignition problem
 
2.4L has intermittent power loss. Sometimes when cruising it acts like it's starving for fuel/air; sometimes at idle it just shuts down but starts right up. If it starts to 'stumble' at idle I can sometimes make it quit with a couple of stabs at the accelerator. Could our microscopic Arizona dust be finding its way into the throttle body or something?

We need a lot more information. How many miles are on the Jeep? Have you done any recent maintenance? What does intermittent mean? During every drive, daily, a couple of times a week? Does it happen when the engine is cold or at operating temperature. The more you tell us the more responses you will get.

81K miles on vehicle. Tuneup done approx. a year ago (plugs, wires, intake cleaning, diagnostics). I had this problem before I took it to the shop; that's why I took it in initially. Everything was fine for several months.

what I mean by intermittent is that it may mess up a couple of times in a month then go weeks with no problems. Then it might mess up two or three days in a row. I can't establish a pattern such as right after fueling, weather conditions, etc. I run Berryman B-12 maybe 3 or 4 times a year to try to keep the fuel system clean. It never happens when the engine is cold, only at normal operating temperature.

Before I took it to the garage for this problem, I had the computer codes read at the auto parts store and the fault was "multiple cylinder misfire".

If it is the coil, is there any real advantage to getting a "high voltage" coil over a OEM replacement or is that just hype?

Well I would go with your coil I only asked if it happened after tune up because it could have been something a simple as it not seating right. But based on your codes that's where I would start. I'm not 100% on which one to get because I have never had to replace mine. Sorry can't be more help there for ya

Try some dileletric grease on each of the plug wire boots and both the plug and coil ends.. Also I have an MSD coil from a neon srt-4 on mine. No real noticeable power but it seemed to smooth out the little stumbled at idle. Also our engine really likes the OEM. NGK brand plugs. I've tried several kinda from cheap to stupid expensive. And none have performed as well and lasted as long as the NGKs. Almost 4 years and 60k later still runs great! Ohh and it wouldn't hurt to pull off your throttle body and clean it out along with the idle air control valve.

had the same problem, believe it or not check the battery's connections, service them
